MG MGF Technical - Trophy Wheels and Tyres (again)
Looking back through the archives there were a number of postings regarding the possible solutions and suggestions for a Trophy spare to replace the IMS. I can't see where anyone actually came up with the ultimate solution i.e. a "get you home or to a garage" spare that would fit any position front or rear. Has anyone done this and if so what wheel/tyre combination did you use? Sorry to resurrect this but my wife having just suffered a puncture in her A3 has re-awakened my interest! Also the Trophy handbook supplement seems to indicate that the options for getting the car onto a recovery trailer or wheel lift are limited due to lowered ride height, etc. in the event the puncture is not repairable by IMS. Anyone any experiences? Terry |

The Manufacturers spare wheel & Tyre supplied with my trophy is a full sized alloy with the same type/size of tyre as fitted on the front, the only difference with the the wheel is that it is painted orange. As long as you drive carefully in wet conditions etc. this will suffice till you get the original reapired. HTH Mike. |

I have a Trophy 160, and would not trust the IMS as far as I can throw it. I got a damaged 16" alloy from my local dealer for free. It's not Trophy wheel but an Abingdon 16" with just a few scratches around the rim. I wasn't bothered about it as it's only to be used as a get-me-to-the-garage measure! I have been informed that this wheel WILL pass over the Trophy brake calipers, but even if it doesn't, and I get a front puncture, I can swap it with a rear wheel. I then took the rim to a local tyre supplier and got a non-directional part-worn tyre fitted and balanced for £25.00. Again, it's only for an emergency, so I don't need a new tyre. Then I got the retaining bolt from Brown and Gammons for less than £2.00 (including postage) which holds the spare in the well at the front of the car. Finally, I got a Mondeo jack and wheel brace from Ford for £25.00 (MG quoted me £59.99). The jack fits the jacking point perfectly, and is much smaller than the MG item. Total price - £52.00. Bargain! Now, if anyone wants to make me an offer for an unused IMS kit.... Cheers Paul PK51VDL - Yellow Trophy. |

Paul, could you prove once and for all whether the 16" 'Abby" style wheel fits or not over the Trophy brake caliper? Cheers! :o) |

Whether it is relevant or not, I don't know, but the fact is that the "Abby" style wheel is 7" wide, whereas the TF 160 wheel is 7,5" wide. I assume the Trophy wheel is 7,5" as well. Just my 2 Eurocents... Per |

Trophy wheels are 7Jx16,also for more confusion has anyone tried the 7Jx16 multispokes over the AP brake calipers , these look to have plenty room to do this job. |

Well, the next time we have a gathering of MGF and mgtf owners in the same place, perhaps we should swop some wheels to get definitive answers on this? Luton or Silverstone chaps? |

Silverstone would be good for me - anyone else have an interest in this? |
