Hi All I'm new round here..... Picked up my pipe organ yesterday. Lovely looking bit of kit and reassuringly heavy. Had too much junk in my boot - so - best looking passenger I've had in a while! Sorry for not being on the case guys, been a bit tom dick over the last few days, pure knackeration I reckon! anyhow! we progress those of you who havent sent in your cheques please do, inc £20 for p&p. apart from Dieter's £60 SF and co. picked up their pipes today and were, like Mr Yarwood ( hi!) very happy with their purchase. Dieter you have mail, and some more pictures! please add them to your website. from a technical perspective there are a few differences. 1. the silencer is marginally shorter to accomodate slightly larger radius curves for better gas flowing 2. yes there are less welds 3. the box weighs about a half kilo less than the old one. 4. the fittings are simplified, which makes it slightly more tricky to fit the box. what you need to do is remove the bracket and the rubber bush that holds the silencer to the car on the right hand end, slide them onto the hangers and then bolt them back up. SF and co did it an about 3 minutes! Kind Regards Neil |

You mentioned above about removing a bracket to fit. Is this something I should tell them to do or leave them to figure it out as they're experts. Ok Martin that's all as arranged. I would suggest you just instruct them "to do it!" It isn't the most difficult job in the book! but yes tell them that the right hand rubber bush has to come off to save time with them scratching their heads! Just out of curiousity how loud is the tt compared to the phoenix exhaust asked a phoenix owner. |

David, these are not a commericially available exhaust unfortunetly. The design was originally formulated by the late Trevor Taylor, who produced a limited number of them some years ago. Neil has revived the design and made some alterations to it to improve it even more, and negotiated with an exhaust manufacturer to have a small batch (15 I believe) made. You will need to confirm with Neil, but I beleive they are all sold, and I dont know if Neil intends having any more made. The main benefit of one of the TT is the way they are constructed. They are a straight through design rather than the conventional baffeled designed which mean they have a different sound and offer less of a restriction to exhaust gases. They are also quite a bit louder than most of the other commericially available silencers. |

This upper bracket removing (two bolts) can be seen as a _feature_ with the TT MK2. http://www.mgfcar.de/exhaust_fxtreme/FX_MOUNTED.jpg (heat shield looks strange 4me on that pic) Usually the wider Standard Exhaust and wider other aftermarket parts restrict the access to the bolts of the rubber bearing for the exhaust bracket. They hide the bolt heads. The MK1 TT and RH adjustable fixture was just a costly copy from standard and looked like this at the exhaust. http://www.mgfcar.de/exhaust_fxtreme/RIGHT_SIDE_FITTING_FX.jpg From buyers point of view, I think Neil and his friend found a way to keep costs low and make the installation easier and quicker. ... in case the brackets at the exhaust are weld well in-line and parallel to the silencer body :) Slight and careful adjustment of the exhaust brackets with a big gripper might be needed, though. I'll see. Anyway, me expects a swap over time at my special car from Milltek to TT within 10 Minutes, including car jack up. Lucky me has installed Stainless Steel nuts and bolts already 5 years ago to the otherwise awfull rusting thread studs at the catalyst. :))))) Parts recommended: - 1 of new metal gasket to exhaust flange WCM100480 - 4 of stainless screws with flanged head (DIN 6921 A2 M 6X30 (or longer) for the BOTH rubber bearing brackets - Cat Saver Nuts from Satur, or 6 of stainless steel M10 nuts with 3 washers. >They are also quite a bit louder than most of the other commericially available silencers. :)))) I think so ;) Neil will get a _big shout_ if it isn't !!! TT MK2 brackets direct as they should, standard, _outside to in_. So easier in that manner. Wherein I need to correct the above mentioned works cause the heatshield needs to be done loose. Not remove, but shift from one side to the other to get the easy access to the rubber bearing screws. That's all for now. ... promised :) |

By popular request, I have looked into the continued production of these pipes. Hmmm tricky! Unfortunately they turned out to be harder to make than anticipated, and the manufacturer is whinging a bit so the next batch will be a bit more expensive. |

Manufacturer really whingeing about the price. It might make further batches uncompetitive at about £350 or the 3" finisher versions and £295 for the standard 2 1/4" ones. So the last production run might be it folks! :-( I tried to make the TT THE best, not just loudest. It was originally designed to allow for MASSIVE power increases and airflow through the exhaust required for heavily supercharged or turbocharged engines. It just turned out that the large and constant diameter pipes necessary to do this without chambers etc deliver a loud bass sound. I never got around to this extreme level of darkside on my own F as I was just grateful to avoid HGF and besides I scare myself enough in the car anyhow! Anybody indulging in extreme tuning of the F should perhaps invest in one of these TT even if they are becoming a bit expensive. |

Hi peeps, have fitted 2 of them now (my own one, and i assisted one of the Roadsters), here's how we did it. Right, first up it is important to note that there is no height adjustment in the hanging brackets at all - on the face of it this shouldn't be a problem, but in my case i have a little issue still toresolve (irons in the fire already). Both the hanging brackets are welded to the system, this means that you don't fit it in the conventional way, rather you need to access the bolts that secure the hanging bushes. This can be done with a 10mm ratchet spanner and a lot of patience, but i found it much easier to simply cut a small section of the heat shield away and use a 10mm socket on a long extension. Method Remove old system (have 'fun' with the rusty cat nuts! eeek!!) Cut out a rectangle of heat shield directly below the bolts that secure the rubber bush on the near side, undo these bolts. Remove the rubber bush, now offer the system up and if possible slide the other (second) hanging bracket into the other bush (i found that the TT with the finishers wouldn't slide far enough over in the bumper recess to allow this and had to cut out the other section of heatshield and unbolt the other bush too). Now slide the first bush onto the first bracket, align the bolts and bolt into position. Fit the cat gasket, and then the three cat nuts Job Done I have a picture of my old Phoenix and the new TT next to each other, but can't host it at the moment so i may email it to Dieter (if he wants it). It illustrates the differences between a 'traditional' F system and the TT one quite nicely. --------------------- Impressions... The sound (in my case i am running an ITG Maxogen, an X-Power 4:2:1 manifold, a bypass pipe and the TT) is simply awesome - no other F system sounds close in terms of volume and tone. Lovely. :-D However... I found that one of my tailpipes is roughly 15mm higher than the other, this doesn't sound like much but as there is no adjustment on the hanging brackets it is a little annoying. I am getting a spacer made up to go between the rubber bush and the floor pan as this should sort the alignment out. Also, one tailpipe sticks out slightly further than the other, again no adjustment possible, but should be sorted out with the tail pipe finishers. Sadly, my Phoenix finishers don't fit, this is because the finishers are pretty long and the bends in the pipes in the TT don't allow the finishers to slide on far enough. So, i am getting some custom finishers made up - i figure i've saved £50.00 by not buying them with the TT and so i have some cash in my pocket to get some bespoke items made up. Now, the above are problems with MY one, the system we fitted to Mark's F (one of the Essex Roadsters), had the tailpipe finishers and fitted perfectly, so i am inclined to think that my issues could possibly be caused by the boot floor in Scarlet being a bit out of plumb (there are still a few dents left over from the accident) and the fact there is no adjustment in the system, meaning that these defects are carried over to the alignment. Overall, the issues i have are easily resolvable i feel and shouldn't cost a great deal - the sound of the system more than makes up for these niggles in my book and i'm extremely happy with it. SF P.S. Neil, i am proposing to visit you early afternoon on Sat 28th, need to talk V8s and also i have something for you mate. |

Glad it all seems to work ok Interesting that your one seems to be a bit out of kilter compared to Mark's Hmmm Given that they are all made on the same jig, I think it is most possibly due to the aftermath of your little prang. I beleive that there is a simple solution to the height issue and that involves fitting longer bolts to the 2 boot floor bushes and some simple spacers to alingn the holes in which the pipes hang. I am sure that a man of your skills you will work this one out Just run it with the standard shiney ends mate! Brutal minimalism and definitely not weedy not with that noise coming out of them! Or get a hacksaw to the finishers you have ;-) V8s are totally and utterly addictive and should be reclassified as category A! I totally adore my ZT, every time I get into it it's like taking the Millenium Falcon out for a burn. Janet won't do her hair like Princess Leah though thank God! (what WERE they thinking? let's make the heroin of the film ...into a dork?) Mr. Wedgywood's pipe isnt ready yet. You could come around on Saturday early afternoon is fine, dont I cant guarantee that other pipe will be ready then. I will update you on Friday. In the summer we will have to get ALL the TT Mk2 owners together at one of the shows Silverstone or something and for a Cruise (Bomb run) through some poor unsuspecting little villages. |

Andrew, just looked up for my old Milltek images. This is the _bad_ alloy spacer and a washer added. It corroded and I got troubles getting off the M8 bolts 3 years later. To short bolts clearly visible. http://www.mgfcar.de/auspuff/dk_washer_cp_6107.jpg Heavy misaligned Milltek fitment to the back and the height where corrected by cut away one of the brackets and re-weld in different height and angle. Tailpipes with no finishers is the reason i never bought a TT the first time around Niel - i gotta make it look in keeping with the rest of the car - at the moment it doesn't. Haven't decided yet if i am going to cut down the Phoenix finishers (which fit, they are just about 75mm too long) as i really like the way they look, or if i am going to go for something a bit bespoke. I may go back to a quad system like the one i had on my old Daytona - it's a look i really like and goes well with the quad rear lights. Decisions, decisions! Photo(s) emailed to you Dieter. The other alternative to the height issue is as Dieter has mentioned, re-bend the hanging hook. There is plenty of metal there so it should be possible, although it would be a lot harder to get the alignment 100% correct. Last resort only. SF |

(17mm ring spanner slipped on the hook and to be used as lever will do it for example) Keep in mind the relation to the catalyst flange aswell. I rememeber my metal catalyst flange was misaligned aswell and _pulled_ the whole exhaust in wrong direction, down and inwards ... looked like yours after first mounting of the Milltek. Me used a round file to enlarge the catalyst flange holes to long holes. All about it's a case of balance. You'll know what I mean and finally the result counts :) Good luck with it. :o) |

James It is unlikely that there will be any more built unless more than a couple come along with orders. In the interim there is a UNIQUE opportunity to own one of the first Mk1s! There is a guy who is on the TT Fxtreme Mk1 Thread called Mark WHO HAS AN ORIGINAL Mk1. He might call you with an offer!. It is an EXTREMELY rare article and should feature on antiques roadshow, with SF as one of their experts ( roll over Arthur Neagus!) This will only fit F's made before 2000 and has the original brutal 2 1/4 inch ends in UNPOLISHED stainless (scaffolding look. It is also VERY LOUD! Took me 20 minutes to do it on including heat shield works, wherein I found similar alignment needs as Andrew said. Less than at Scarlet, but you know I want it perfect. Dieter that's great to know. I think given the time for a few slight adjustments it shouldn't be difficult to get the pipes absolutely spot on. Be careful of you intend to bend the brackets that you dont break the welds! although they are pretty robust. Also regarding the noise, if you get that cat off it will transform the sound! |

Got mine fitted yesterday, it wasn't quite as cold as it was for Dieter, but it was still £30 well spent in my book. Very impressed, not too intrusive under normal pottering about, but the loud pedal now really deserves it's name! Aso the burbling you get as you lift off -(that's taking your foot off the pedal, not getting airbourne)- is quite simply - ACE!!! Love it! G |

The lift off burbling is fantastic! Unfortunately I was a bit of a girl about the resonance from the TT exhaust combined with my K&N 57i (even enclosed within a montego 2.0i airbox) so I had to revert to the original airbox to stop my ears from bleeding on the motorway. And driving with the roof down at the weekend was an enormous amount of fun (for me, anyway, my girlfriend just shouted 'what?' and 'pardon?' quite a lot.) The noise! Thanks Neil. |

from my esperience, when you've got a loud exhaust, the induction noise is hidden, moreover if it's an enclosed system. Put it back, it's worth the extra bhp ;o) |

Personally - I can still hear the tones of the K&N, even with the TT trying to out-shout it. In my opinion, they operate at a different resonance and pitch. Is there a prize for the longest amount of time between getting hands on long awaited TT and having it put on car. My lift fell throughto take me the 12 miles to pick up car with new rad fitted. (£250!) Anyway, cat now on its way, wife getting up early to take me garage before going to work and I'm off work all day tomorrow so hopefully with a bit of luck my local garage can put the pipe on. Oh, and my K & N is staying ON. I'm looking to put the bigger throttle body on at her at some point too. Martin |

Hi, Just like to add, I've just finished the 'perfect' fitment. :o) Slight misalignment (same as at SF) solved. - bent the RH bracket about 10mm in direction engine to get the RH tailpipe outwards. (Used a gas flame (torch lamp?) to heat the bracket until it was _red_) Do not try to bend it when cold !!! - made a spacer below the rubber damper part to overcome a height difference RH to LH tailpipe. Material, 6mmx22mmx60mm. Drilled two holes of 8.5mm with distance 49mm for the rubber piece. Used 2 of longer stainless steel screws with washer (M8x 50?) to attach it. - heat shield re-worked like SF did to make access to the screw heads easier. Bolt all back and finished now. I did pictures, but my cam is broken and I can't download to the PC. Ear plugs in the cubby box, though. May be she will be upset ?? :( But... enjoyed the visit in a 6 floor car parking garage today. Was a pleasure to going up to the fourth floor and then down into the cellar, -2nd floor until I _found_ a nice place were to park. Would recommend. Frankly, I think you are all a bunch of hoons! Personally, I prefer the stealth bomber approach. Make them wonder what it was that just blew their bloody doors off. Besides, if you had exhausts as loud as that in Oz, you would have every mug copper for miles lining up to give you a ticket for "creating undue noise" |

Actually, it does get "quiet" over about 5500 rpm, (and also at 2000rpm), but I'm not that gung-ho about my licence to practice the former! As a namby pamby southerner, West Wittering and Petworth would suit me fine. There arent many tunnels round these parts, though. |

When I first fitted the TT prototype in 97 I was totally paranoid about the old bill pulling me over for the (ahem) "music" but I can say that 50,000 miles later and many full bore runs through towns, villages, tunnels and car parks I have never been pulled over once! So relax and enjoy the experience! Lets see if we can get as many TT boys ( and others perhaps SEFers) together for a Bomb Run BBQ at West Wittering. Petworth gets the full assualt on the way! We could sell seats on Petworth High street!! |
