MG MGF Technical - Tyre Pressure - Help!
It's daft I know, but my car handbook is boxed as I'm moving house, and I've just noticed that my tyres are looking a bit on the flat side. Anyone know the recommended tyre pressures for a standard 1.8i MGF, with standard 15" alloys? Cheers! Rich |

Tim, my manual says 1.8 front and 1.9 rear. Different country, different pressure ??? Marc |

Call me old fashioned, but I thought it was 26 front, 28 rear. Ralph |

Cheers Guys, I'm off down the garage for some free air! |

Regarding tyre pressure, do you trust in the gauges and pressure systems you find in the petrol station? Once, I inflated the tyres of the Renault Super 5 of my girlfriend at ELF station. A few days after, we took the car for servicing to the same garage (change oil, air filter and so on) and the guy told me the tyres pressure was dramatically too low! (He did not use the same inflating system that the one customers are provided with). Afterwards I checked the pressure once again at the same petrol station and it really was too high according to the gauge! 1 bar is not 1 bar everywhere apparently! (or PSI or lb ...) |

Footpumps don't cost that much these days do they ... thought everyone would have one ... |

I never trust forecourt or foot pump pressure gauges - they are rarely accurate. I always check with a separate pressure gauge. Modern footpumps are pretty useless - they don't last more than 6 months and they have minute barrels. I use a 1940's brass footpump, two strokes gives about 1psi increase in pressure! Ralph |
