MG MGF Technical - Tyre Repair on MGTF 160

I've just bought a mgtf 160 (80th Anniversery edition)and I must say its the most fun I've had sitting down!

There is no spare wheel, jack or wheel nut spanner supplied (great for keeping weight down), but instead is a tin of aerosol goo for inflating and temporary repairing the tyre. Has anyone any experience of these?

I'm worried about being in the middle of nowhere with a puncture and it not working.

Any comments please?

Graham,

This BBS has a wealth of information in it's archives. Become a member (it's free) and have a look. The question of a spare wheel comes up regularly and you should find lots on this subject. From what I can remember, people in your situation tend to buy a spare - you will need a full sized alloy to go over your AP callipers. Remember you'll also need a wheel brace and jack as well. And, welcome to the gang :-)

and the MGF centre is much cheaper then MGR for these items.

<I'm worried about being in the middle of nowhere with a puncture and it not working.>
Exactly what happened to me earlier this year...on an MG run in Norfolk, rear tyre blew...so I deployed the kit, thinking that this would solve the problem and get me mobile instantly (called the Instant Mobility System by MGR...)
After five minutes of filling the casing, and attempting to reinflate the tyre, I discovered that the puncture hole was larger than the size that the kit can cope with....! Must remember to check road ahead for objects larger than 6mm! All of the sealant was pouring straight out onto the road...
Impossible to repair, and at 4pm in rural Norfolk inmpossible to get a tyre fitter out, I had no option but to call RAC recovery to get me the 100 miles back home.
I have since installed tyre sealant, with no obvious negative side effects, and so far no punctures either. But I will also install a spare wheel and tyre before travelling to Germany in 2005 - MGF Centre supplied naturally!
