MG MGF Technical - VVC ECU wanted

Further to my questions in the fuel pump help thread - it seems my problems could be due to a faulty ECU (thanks Mark)- Does anyone have a spare ECU for a VVC model they could send me to try? (My ECU has MKC 104000 written on the side.)

Isnt the MEMS coded to other components in the car for the immobiliser? I recall something about this a while back... If this is the case, you'll need a dealer to fit and re-code the ECU...

Don't quote me on this tho - just something to bear in mind.. Anyone else have any comment? ;)

Thanks

Shashi,
guess also, but 'testbook' and a dealer visit is required in any way.

Jason,
I suggest to call also some of the well known companies, may be MS or B&G have a second hand ECU for sale.

Another one. How are the prices and sources for alternative progammable ECUs, wasn't there a company in the UK ? Roger Parker wrote about it the other day. You should write a direct mail. I know he is very busy currently and doesn't visit the BBS as often as in earlier times.

Good look

Dirk has a new spare VVC ECU...
get in touch with him.
Fabrice

Jason, you cannot swop ECU without a visit to your Dealer,as Shashi mentioned above the unit will require resetting with the immobiliser signal.Mike.

thanks for the advice - I will try Dirk - he has my spare EPAS parts at present - so I may be able to do a deal with him!

Dieter - plug-compatible programmable ECUS for the K-series cost around 600-800ukp including VAT. They are available from a number of suppliers (Emerald, GEMS, MBE) but I'm not sure if any of them do a VVC version (GEMS are most likely). Obviously you need to add mapping costs.

Are there no companies offering refurbished ECUs ?
I had a refurbished ECU fitted to my vauxhall at half the price the dealer quoted, and would certainly look to this option in the future.
Changing to a different ECU type may cause insurance problems.

I hope Jason receives my emails, I have the impression he can send but not receive (my) mails (?)

Jason, I got already 3 years a new VVC ECU (v104000) lying in my cupboard doing absoleutely nothing. So sure we can work something out!

If you haven't received my mail just confirm me the address you gave me once is the one I should send asap that ECU to.
Dirk

Mike and all,

Can't withstand asking for more details, also the refurbished ECU term takes my attention.
There died so much K-Engines and cars, guess it will be a market for second hand ECUs.

How much was the original ECU ?

Dieter
PS. Jason, the relay shipment went off on monday. Unfortunately the wife didn't use the airmail option. Hope you get it soon, though.

Thanks for the advice everyone - for info, my local Rover dealer quoted £470 for a new VVC ECU and £230 for reconditioned one - so the price is not quite as bad as I expected!
Dirk is sending me his spare unit to try - thanks Dirk.
(Dieter - not received yet, I will keep you informed)
