MG MGF Technical - VVC immobiliser
My little sisters 1997 VVC has only one working remote (she lost the other on the first day she owned it) When she took it to an ex rover/MG dealer to have the suspension pumped up she also asked if they could supply and program a new key They said they had one in stock and wanted to go right ahead. But the programming failed and their diagnose is a faulty immobiliser. And offered to replace it at €400.-! Luckily she declined. So now I am in the hunt for a immobiliser with 2 fobs. But on the Bay I see lots of them with the ECU. Are they programmed together? Can I not just change the immobiliser? |

Hi Onno, I seem to remember that the ECU, immobiliser and fobs all communicate with each other. I think you can have the immobiliser and fob programmed together, but if the latter is faulty, you may have to resort to ebay! I'm no engineer, but I did exchange all three on my TF in a couple of hours. Mike. |

If the one Fob that she has works, then there is nothing wrong with the immobiliser ony the mechanic or his tools. Is it a European original car ?? Japanese Re-Imports use a different Frequency. Do you have the Emergency Access Code. viz. The 4 digit code that you put in the door lock like a Safe Left and Right to turn off the immobiliser if she loses the one Fob. If not, then contact http://www.mgrccservices.com to get it. I ran my car for 4 years with one Fob until I put my old jacket on again. Geoff F. |
