MG MGF Technical - Water in Oil - not just HGF
I recently had a supposed HGF. The classic sign is water in the oil giving you "mayo" instead of oil! Upon reparing it (and only doing 50 km) I still had the same problem and trhought I might have damaged the elastomeric bead on the HG when I fitted the head. I took it apart again and everything looked good. I was stumped. I then chatted to an mg specialist in Auckland who suggested that it might be the seal between the cyclinder liners and the block. Bingo. took the sleeves out and I could see where the water had been passing through. I cleaned them up and replaced the sealant with a non-setting sealant (Hylomar blue) and put the engine together again (having replaced rings etc) and problem solved. Adrian |
