MG MGF Technical - Where to find the correct bush ??
Hello everyone, A while ago during the first MOT test of my 1999 MGF VVC, they found out that one of my suspension bushes was worn out, the car didn't fail the MOT test but they told I should look after it. I'll try to describe what bush it is. On the rear wheels there is a track control bar to adjust the toe in/out for the rear wheel. A picture of that bar can be found at http://www.mikesatur.co.uk./images/trackadjuster.gif. The end of the bar that is visible on the picture is attached to the wheel. The other side that is not visible on the picture is connected to the frame of the car. On that particular side there is a rubber bush between the rod and the frame and that is the one who is worn out on my car. In fact the bush on the left side is so worn out that when I lift the rear of the MG I can shake the wheel. Normally i guess the alignment of the rear wheel should be something like 10degrees +/-6minutes, well in my case I think it is something like 10degrees +/- 6degrees !! As could be expected, if my MGR garage has to fix it they will charge me with a complete new rear track contol bar while I just need a simple plastic part. I also contacted B&G but they also only sell a complete bar. I mailed Mike Satur twice but got no answer so I think he doesn't have it too. Do one of you know where else they might have this part (or if necessary a whole set of suspension bushes) ? And is the replacement a DIY job ? Kind regards, Geert Maes 1999 MGF VVc Kortrijk, Belgium |

Geert Is that bush available from the Poly Bush kits that Mike Satur sells? It may be worth phoning him direct for a short chat. |

Hello Geert, To my knowledge, Mike must be able to provide you with the correct set of bushes. He is a Powerflex reseller and is providing the whole range of suspension bushes. http://www.mikesatur.co.uk/images/powerflex_mgf.jpg Are you talking about the bushes indicated by number 7 on the picture/template above? Regards, Erik (planning a full Powerflex system somewhere at the end of December, start of January) |

Geert, the part you refer to is the inner part of the TCA this is not available other from Rover as a complete arm, the inner part that has worn is a bearing not a plastic part. Sorry for not ressponing sooner, easier to phone me than e-mail a |

hadn't finished! should be 'responding', and easier to phone than e-mail due to number of e-mails. mike. |

No problem Mike, I know the phenomenon of full e-mail boxes at work ! :-) next time i will call. I felt with my finger inside the hole of the frame where the TCA goes in and I felt something 'soft' so I assumed it was a bush. Thanks for clearing it out ! So it seems I will have to bite the bullet and let the garage order it at MGR. Again no K&N this month !!! :-( |

slightly OT here: I could provide you some details from someone in Belgium who is selling his K&N (he crashed his car a long time ago). Just let me know: erik.baekelant@skynet.be cheers, |
