MG MGF Technical - wobbly gear lever....

hi all,

if its not one thing its another!!

I parked my car up yesterday, and it was fine just got in it now to go out to the shops and the gear lever is all over the show.

I can move the gear lever in to all gears (albeit very wobbly) if I take my foot off the clutch whilst the car is in any gear including reverse it moves forward slowly, but if i put it in neutral and take my foot off the clutch it is fine?

What has happeded? has the cable snapped or could it of just slipped off?

Has anyone any pics of where I should be looking under the car?

Many Thanks

Nathan

Nathan...this sounds very much like cabling problems.Rob's website has good info on this, or you could try getting it sorted by Stuart Pettitt at Little Houghton Garage (an independent mg specialist) who is looks after many of the cars from Northants MGOC
Blue Max

thanks for your reply.

I had a look at some of the pictures on other websites, and the top cable had just come off, so I pushed it back on..... BUT it appeared to go on very easily, should it be like this or should there be some resistance?

Can I order the new part that is on the end of the linkage (is it a rose joint?) if so do you know where from?

Many Thanks

Nathan

P.S. is there a temporary fix to stop it coming off again?
