MG TD TF 1500 - 100 Octane

It seems this is unobtainium. Both Penrite and Nulon make an additive for 91 octane which ups it a couple of points. Racing fuel is 100 octane but is lead based and so is unavailable for domestic vehicles. So the question is - where do you get it in Oz, if you can get it at all? You have any ideas Willy? Cheers

Assuming you're on the RON rating system, why would you need such high octane? A stock engine should run well on 91, and 98 will be good for all but a race tune. My engine is at about 9.1:1 and runs fine on MON89-91, which is about the same as RON95-98 I believe.

It's been suggested on a current thread that the 98 octane available here in Oz may not be high enough for a non supercharged engine with a 10:1 to 1 CR and that 100 octane is what is required. It also has a Fanelli street cam, 1 1/2 SU's, 1 3/4" exhaust system and is 40 thou OS. Happy to consider all opinions though Steve. Cheers

Peter
I'm sure (99%) that 98 premium will do the job for you, -you could top it up with some octane booster if you have to-but I doubt you'll have to

BP have 100 racing fuel and sell it as RF100
It's the fuel that the Touring car Masters like John Bowe-Jim Richards etc use
Basically it's avgas but not for Aero use
The aero avgas has to have a guaranteed octane rating of I think(not 100%sure)of 120 and it has to be that for a certain time after the drum has been opened
Leaded 100 race fuel (RF100) is banned from motorsport from the middle of next year so I doubt it will be available for long

In the other thread I was being carefull to quote safe numbers to cover myself
You'll be right with 98premium I reckon
RF100 is about $4.00 a litre so you are better off without it--

One piece of info I picked up about octane boosters today is that it is usually added to 91 octane, raising it about 2.5 points. Also that 98 octane already has a considerable quantity of octane boosters added and that further addition may be counterproductive, causing what was described as crystallization buildup on the spark plugs, so I think I'll just stick with the 98.
