MG TD TF 1500 - 1951 MG-TD

I have a frame up restoration 1951 MG-TD that I must sell due to financial reasons. I can e-mail you a very detailed list of all the resoration activities. I spent $18,500 US, asking $13,500. I just moved to Florida, but the car is still garaged in Memphis TN, I can bring it to Florida if necessary. Please click to link below for pictures:

for a fast sale you can try ebay or an real time auto auction. I would suspect you won't get $13,500 unless you complete the restoration though. If the car is nice when you are through you have a lot better chance to get more money with a real auction than online.

I think Chris is right: while the car looks OK, the missing boss in the steering wheel and the wheel covers suggests something unfinished. Those items do not cost much and if I were you I would provide them. Also the dashboard ought to look better. For the rest it's hard to tell.

Your statement of a full restoration is a bit of a stretch. Missing hub caps, top, side curtains, including mounting hardware, interior is incorrect and poorly done, plus other items mentioned by others.

You might be looking at 7-9,000 tops.

Wow, tough crowd. You asked for advice and you got an honest response. Anyone selling a well restored TD is likely not going to get back all they have invested. A partially "restored" is always going to be an even tougher sell as it does not appeal to someone wanting a turn key car. Someone with the skills to finish the project may choose to start from scratch (less intitial outlay and more satisfaction). I am only trying to explain why all your hard work and expense does not translate into a fair return.

I hate to the bearer of bad tidings, but, I agree with the others. While it appears from the photos that alot of work has been done, there is still alot left to be characterized as a "frame-up restoration". I won't get picky, but, I can easliy see about $1,000 to $2,000 worth of work yet to do (probably more given the limited info. in the photos). I think the estimate of $7,000 - $9,000 is probably right (on the high side). I know you said you have $18,500 into it, I'm guessing that most of that went into labor costs from someone doing the work for you. You are never going to get that money back.

If you need to sell the car, and are looking for a quick sale, EBay is the way to go (as Chris mentioned). If you are looking to get more out of it, you'd be better off looking to sell it through ads in local auto sellers, Hemmings, etc. It will take a while to find the right buyer willing to pay your price.
