MG TD TF 1500 - 52 MGTD project $3000

I just ran across this.
The entrance fee is reasonable but there is a lot to do.
Hate to see it go to scrap.

I hate to say it, but this is a parts car. We have to have some to continue our hobby, and while any car can be restored, this one has so many parts that will need extensive restoration or replacement that I just don't see it worth it.

If it was all original and had a few less big issues, I could support a full restoration.

I agree that this one is beyond reasonable repair. If it was a model that brings 100.000 when restored, it might be worth the effort, but not here.
Sum of Parts is definitely worth the money, though.

I like the steering wheel and maybe the clock still works..and the shelley jack is a nice feature as well.

I just hate to see any car parted out. The following pics belong to a mate who brought this one back. He did all of the work himself involving a massive amount of time but not a huge dollar outlay. With good old Aussie ingenuity anything is possible. Cheers

Today this is a really nice looking car. If I can find a pic that doesn't identify either the car or the owner I'll post it. Otherwise you'll just have to take my word for it. Cheers

Unless you had a good complete tub and wings, best to pass on that one. Honest description for a change. George

I have seen a lot worse sell for more. I agree for $3000 it's a reasonable price for someone with lots of time and skills.

The reality is that many $10,000 to $15,000 cars would probably need as much attention to get them to be very nice cars. It really only makes sense to spend more than about more than $10,000 if you are happy with the car as is and it just needs some tweaking. A full restoration costs the same amount of money whether the car looks nice to start with or not.

Without a five fold jump in TD values, this one is destined to keep TDs alive. Hopefully someone with the required skill and time buys it, but for us mere mortals the car simply isn't worth restoring. Chances are it will be parted out either by the current owner or the one who buys it at the current, attractive price. Sad to see another gone but reality hurts sometimes.

Looks like a lot of acidic damage, like it was close to a manure pile or a ton of bird droppings. If that's the case, the whole under carriage/chassis could be extremely weak. But, if the engine is not froze and the rest of the running gear is passable, it's well worth the three grand in my book, I just wouldn't pay the extra grand on top of that to have it delivered here! I would give the asking price if it was local. PJ
