Nice Milestone! By the way Gordon, did you see this incredibly cool steering wheel on Ebay? I think you should bid on it... It is a real chance to get a handcrafted item for some lucky MG owner. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MGTD-MG-TD-TF-Wood-Steering-Wheel_W0QQitemZ180008512788QQihZ008QQcategoryZ33704QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem warmly, dave |

Wow... that should fetch thousands!!!! |

My trusty 1954 TF will be rolling over the 40,000 mile mark this weekend.......just like the energizer bunny, it keeps on ticking. |
Colin Stafford |
Gordon, if it doesn't fetch thousands, something is serioiusly wrong with our hobby. Colin.. Take a picture! About that ticking, I think those were the Timex watches. The Energizer Bunny "keeps going, and going" But I digress, if it is ticking and it isn't coming from the fuel pump, perhaps those are the valves you hear. Is it more of a clacking? hehehe just joshing, congratulations on your milestone as well! dave |

Hi Gordon. Really dig the number of miles you have done. I like the quality of the instrument too! Cheers, Rob |

Considering it was pulled out of the barn with 48818 miles on it and has been running not yet two years (August 8th), not bad. The speedomeeter comes apart pretty easily (not as easy as the tach) and cleaned up with a little polish and windex. Found the 'main beam' red dot stuck under the bezel and glued it back in with red glass paint. After re-assembly (the odometer adjuster is the bear to remove from the case). http://www3.sympatico.ca/gordonblawson/td/speedo.jpg Sept.15/05 http://www3.sympatico.ca/gordonblawson/td/td178.jpg |

You can NEVER trust an MGTD/MGA odometer reading! Back in the late '50's early '60's when I was buying TD's in winter($500), (people couldn't start them in cold weather) clean 'em up and resell them in the Summer(1500), I used to "ADJUST" the odometers during lunch at my drafting table. GJ.....we now have an all points bulletin out for you. Don't you know that's against the law, we could make you sit in a Fiat or Triumph for two weeks as punishment. The MG Originality Enforcement Police of MI. |
Colin Stafford |
Colin, Hope the "MGOEP,MI." dosen't have extradiction from Ohio....Was one of the first job's I had on used car lot as a kid! If your going to put Greg & I in the same cell, I had better get on the "patch" so I don't blow us both up with my nastie habit. Hey Greg..what kind of puppy treats does Grimm like? I'll get the wife working on baking some into a cake for us! I'm still trying to figure out what one "Fiat or Triumph" is "the hole"! Hope you doing ok Greg. Cheers, David 55 TF1500 #7427 |

Over the past 30+ years, having owned a Triumph 1300 (RHD, FWD sedan), Fiat 500 sedan (2 cyl.), Fiat 850 coupe, MG-YB sedan and currently TD Mark II roadster, I would put the Fiats at the bottom, Triumph in the middle and the MG's definitely on top. While they all have (or had) a high fun factor, each was unique and had their own special qualities. I would have to state that British engineering seems better than Italian (comparing only these 5 cars), while Italian electrics were better than British. It is rather difficult to compare FWD to RWD, LHD to RHD, Sedan - coupe - roadster, 2 passenger to 4, or air cooled to water cooled. It seems the only common denomiator is 4 wheels, 4 speed trans and 2 headlites. I like vintage cars of all makes and models and an appropriate punishment might be to be forbidden to sit in any car(except maybe a Yugo). |

Remember a friend bought a "Lada" when they came out ... she had nothing but problems with the electrics... Looked at the connections and there wasn't a plastic cover over any of them... Took very little time for 'corrosion' to form and break the connection. Most of the TD's underhood connections are open as well...I took a hypodermic needle full of 'Stabilant 22' (a conductor enhancer) and put a drop on every connection on the car (fun under the dash)...haven't, knock on wood, had an electrical problem at all! |

Colin, back then "IT" was "NOT" illegal so to speak but was only frowned upon. They did however pass a law making it illegal for dealers to do it but it took awhile to make it illegal for the poor folk. Actually it is still possible to "run back" a modern digit odometer. I have NEVER even inquired about milage. You have to judge each vehicle on it's own merts and you have to know where and what to look for and always caryy your "ANGEL" with you. Greg & Grimm |

I assume the 'Angel' is a magnet? |

WELL, THE OLD TF 6688 ROLLED OVER THE 40,000 ACTUAL ORIGINAL MILES THIS MORNING. ACTUALLY IT GOT TO 40,001 BEFORE I GOT HOME TO TAKE A PICTURE OF IT. WHERE DO I POST THE PIC. IF ANYONE IS INTERESTED. I WILL RELEGATE G.J. TO THE FIAT "BRIG" ONE OF OUR LOCAL MG-T CLUB MEMBERS RECENTLY BOUGHT A FIAT......WHY?, THEY ARE A NIGHTMARE AS I HAVE KNOW THEM TO BURN UP. WELL A FEW WEEKS AGO THIS ONE DID A "FLAMER". |
Colin Stafford |
Colin... send me the photo and I will do a page of 'odometer' readings!!!! |
