MG TD TF 1500 - A trip down Memory Lane
As many of you know my dad has been diagnosed with terminal colon cancer and is under hospice care. I have been desperately working on my restoration in hopes of giving him an opportunity to drive a TD again and relive some of his youth. Sadly as time progresses that goal is becoming unobtainable. I still have an interior fitment to be done professionally ( after a disappointing attempt by me to do some trimming I realize I'm not an upholsterer). I also have the engine build left to do and it is at the shop being checked. Yesterday, a Sacramento Valley MG Car Club member was kind enough to bring his '50 TD out of hibernation and stop by For a visit after some conversation dad was surprised with a ride in this beautiful car. At 87 yrs old and in regressing health I was surprised by his demonstration of how a tall person enters a TD unassisted it was like riding a bicycle to him. When they returned dad had a gleam in his eyes and a big grin on his face. His was young again for that short period of time! A special "Thank You" goes out to Keith Yarbrough for his kindness in bringing a bit of joy and a trip down Memory Lane... Pic of dad ready for his road trip |

Keith told me to take dad for a drive No Keith I won't drive your car. Besides your cars steering wheel, peddles, shifter and dash layout are all backwards. Lol. My LHD vs his RHD both cars are trimmed alike except his paint is a shade darker and equipped with the wires. Pic of Dad and I in Keith's very lovely TD |

Kudos to all 3 of you: you for arranging this, Keith for lending his car and your Dad for starting your love of MGs. Tell him we are all in there rooting for him. |

A great story Bill and Keith you are a special person for making a very sick person happy. May I wish your dad all the best. I won't ever be able to experience my son taking me for a ride in my TD for I lost him on November 30th. |

Wonderful, Bill. Maybe some other T-typer from out that way with a LHD car might come by one of these days. I'd be delighted to loan Lazarus to you, but I'm afraid it's a bit far. Bud |

Bill, the pic of your dad in the TD with the smile on his face is one you'll cherish. Keith's gesture won't be forgotten by any of us. Really sorry to hear of your loss John. Cheers Peter TD 5801 |

Thank you everyone for your responses. Now I have tears in my eyes from your outpouring. John, I'm so very sorry for your loss. Parents are not supposed to bury their children. May you find joy in his memory and peace in your heart. Sincere Regards Bill Chasser Jr. TD4834 |

Thank you for your condolences Bill and Peter. We miss him dearly. Every other Sunday morning he would drop in to see us, so Sundays are not such a good day for us.Time I'm sure will heal part of the pain. As if that wasn't enough, my sister, who we were very close to, passed away on Christmas Day. Unfortunately 2014 was not our year. John...Sydney |
