MG TD TF 1500 - ADDICTION

Darn these things are addicting. Got the front of the TD all off and being repainted due to a slight leak from my battery this year. So what do I go and do?

Bought a 68 B GT on e-bay.

Luckily, this one will not get to me until the spring. MUST WORK HARDER _ MUST MAKE ROOM

Got to love em.

I'm sure you'll love the B. I had a 72 Roadster before the TF and got very grumpy if I couldn't get my driving fix at least three times a week. Wish I could have kept it but I only have a two car garage and the BMW needs shelter too. Having owned the TF for only three months, I'm still getting to know it. it's a sort of doctor patient relationship!

Bruce,
I went the opposite route, had the B for years & went out and got the TD. I drive them both throughout the summer and my only comment is that you will notice they are completely different driving experiences.... one is not better than the other, they are just different. I had never realized just how "modern" the B was until I started driving the TD, which stands to reason, one's engine was designed in the 30's while the others designed in the 50's. I've found that you can relax more in the B, whereas you need to "drive" the TD more. You need to be more cognizant of power requirements and gear changes in the TD...keeping the revs up.... while the B has a much bigger reserve of power.
Of course, I can't tell you which I enjoy driving more, when I return from driving the TD I'm sure I find that more enjoyable...until the next time I drive the B!! It's a wonderful dilemma that I’m sure I’ll figure out in about 25 years!!

Any day I get to drive the TF is a good day indeed. Now in my third month of caretaking this car and beginning to believe the feeling will persist forever.

This is not my first B. I bought and restored one for my wife when we were first married. Unfortunatly, with the second child, there was no room for the car seats.

Totally agree with the difference in driving the TD and the B. I love driving the TD and love the feel of being closer to the rear than the front.

I went with the B GT so that I can experience the handling of this nice car, but also can use is earlier and later in the year.

I improved the handling of my B by fitting a 3/4" ARB, V8 bushes, uprated front dampers and rear gas struts. I love driving the TF but I still miss that car!

You guys worry me. With two old airplanes, a Model T Ford, a mgtd 2/3 done, I still have some room in my shop. Whats next? An A or a B. Hope my wife does'nt see this.

I started with a 175 Cessna. Sold it to make room for the TF. Im restoring the TF and had to have a car to drive to the MG Club so bought a 72 RWA midget. Then a garage find MGC parked inside from 1975. Just could not pass it up. I now have my eyes closed because people now are looking my up to sell their LBC. No room in the shop and my wifes car is outside. She is the GREATEST for the last 31 years. Each one has its own personality.

Funny you should mention the wife's car. Every time I mention a new project, my wife says, "does this mean I'm going to be parking outside again?"

This must be a common side effect of the "addiction!"

Jay and all... I've got a 1952 Cessna 170B in the hangar, the 55 TF1500 in the garage and count my blessings to have a wife of 38 years who has put up with the comings and goings of too many cars and planes to count. It started with a 1250 mgtf biught in a basket for $350 with her money and our work we honeymooned in it six months later.

Of couse the TF sits right next to her concourse 1994 VDP.

Yep, bragging rights.

My TF is also a 1500.

I started with a '65 B. Next came the MGA. The BMW went to the driveway. Then I bought a YB. The B went to the driveway and the BMW went to the street. Now I've been eyeing an MGA coupe. Thank god I'm out of money!
Steve Simmons

Dave Rezin's being modest. He built one of his planes from scratch and restored the other. He also fabricates some of the pieces for the TD he is restoring.

Wish I had half that talent. I'm ok at taking things apart and putting them back together, but thats about it.

I did get interesting information on my B. Checking back on previous owners, I found it was owned by two guys who are big time into MGB's. Hope that means the mechanicals have been gone through. Could explain why a 67 is in that good of shape.
