MG TD TF 1500 - Air Filter Oil

Please can someone advise how much oil should be in the air filter on my TD. In the handbook it say "fill with fresh engine oil to level indicated" but i can see no level indicated.
Many thanks
Derek

Original assemblies have it stamped right into the outer housing. If you can't see it, the level is right where the extra ridge is inside where the diameter is reduced. Check the owners manual page 42.

Thanks for the answer but do you mean i should cover the ridge completely?
Derek

My TF1500 manual suggests oil in the air cleaners too, but the air cleaners are on there side so won't oil just run out the vent holes? Well let me re-phrase, it does and it makes a mess in the engine bay! Is that just the excess oil I've lost from over oiling or am I missing something?

Thanks in advance.

Purely from the books, the TD filter seems to work on an oil bath principle, whereas the TF pancakes should have perimeter sponges that should be impregnated with special sticky filter oil.

Latter is also aka "dirt bike filter oil" and easily availble from the bikie shops.

You're regularly meant to wash the oil off the sponges with solvents then reoil it; gently squeeze out most of the excess. Leave it to air-dry until it becomes really tacky/dry then reinstall. No drips.

ps: Keep the bottle well sealed.

The arrow on the canister points to the first hump. I don't think it's that critical. Just keep it between the two ridges.
