MG TD TF 1500 - Applying vinyl to dash…
Moving along again after a break from the TD. My questions for the experts relate to applying the vinyl to the dash board. Should the wood be sealed to create a smoother surface for the vinyl? If so, with what? What adhesive does one use to apply the vinyl? Thanks…. Bill |

When doing the the timbers and panels in dads car I applied a urethane coating such as Valspar to all wood surfaces. For the dashboard in my car once the urethane had cured, I then used a quality upholstery adhesive and sprayed both the fabric and the dash board face with a medium coat. After allowing them to tack up for several minutes I then carefully applied the fabric to the board while pushing air pockets out and weighed the dashboard face down on a table overnight. |

Back in 1977 when I restored my TD I covered the dash in displaced (but new) mgb top material because it was free and available. I know, not original but still looks very good. Just applied it to the plywood with spray adhesive as I recall.
