MG TD TF 1500 - Auxiliary Fuel Pump
What would be the Max pressure for a rear-mounted aux fuel pump on a TF? I still have some good old pumps we used in racing years ago, but the pressures are too high on some of them but a couple might be ok pressure-wise. ?? |

PJ, The normal for a rear mounted TF is 2.7PSI. FACET makes a 2.5-4.0PSI unit that I use, it was labelled different but it is a FACET. Look for model 60300 https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/eppages/solidstatepump.php?clickkey=4377 Peter |

Thanks Peter, a pressure reducer would be needed to use any of these old pumps I have. They were mainly used on old Ford flathead multi-carb manifolds. PJ |

PJ- I have the SU pump on the firewall (54 TF) and a Facet pump at the rear. When I installed the Facet I did not think of the pressure needed but it has worked just fine. One caution, though. I also installed the filter for the Facet. It is not a clear filter and it clogged one time which of course stopped the fuel to the engine. Caused a lot of pain for me and fortunately I was not on a heavy traffic road, such as a freeway. I suggest not using the Facet filter. Larry |

Larry, I have a TF1500, and the SU is on the right rear frame rail with a filter between it and the carbs, so with the tank screen and carb screens I'm pretty good on filters, plus you should never put a filter on the suction side of an SU if the filter plugs up damage to the SU can occur. I'll probably use a free-flow 2 lb Facet in the system. Thanks for the reply. PJ |
