MG TD TF 1500 - Barrett Jackson, PB 2006
.. went up tp Barrett Jackson auction in Palm Beach on Friday. I ended up not going in as it was expensive and I so only one MG. A few Bentleys, some Jags and a lovely Healey. The MG was a '61 midget which I later learned it fetched $16,000! and was grossly over-restored. I later learned too, that the Healey got $105,000. Can you believe it? What the hell is happening? We won't be able to afford our own cars, pretty soon! Gord Clark Rockburn, Qué. |

Gord Take a look at E-bay. In the last week there have been a number of MGB's that are in the 6 to 10 thousand + range. Not saying they will get it, but someone thinks these cars are worth those prices. |

Well, these cars started to climb substantially in 89-90 when the economy plunged, now these things are doing it again. Good thing is, I own a bunch of them this time! |

I'm not sure how the B-J auction works, but I' am convinced that many cars don't get to the big stage and are auctioned off at some locateion for lesser value cars. I didn't see any MGBs but that doesn't mean there weren't any - just too many cars to look at. Gord Clark Rockburn, Qué. |

Gord, Some of the auction prices this year were amazing. There was a TR4 at Palm Beach that brought $97k!!! And a big Healey at Scottsdale for $130k +!! Looking at the photos on the BJ site, we were able to spot dozens of things wrong with this car. Yet a REALLY nice Bugeye at the Arizona auction didn't receive a single bid when started at $9995. That car should have brought $12-13k. What totally amazed me though were the prices for American Muscle Cars. I don't think there were many Corvettes that went for less than $100k. Hemi Mopars the same. |

I have gone to the B-J auction in Scottsdale for many years. My folks live there so it is an opportunity to see them and go see the cars. In the last few years I have become disgusted with the auction. Too much money for cars, bid by rich idiots who will never drive them and hve more money then brains. They look at the cars purely as investments. The antique car market is losing its soul. Once the place of enthusiasts, it is now the playground of the rich. The end result being that people who actually drive the cars and enjoy the various marques are being pushed out of the way. I love my MGTD but is it worth $40,000+, definately not! Yet, TD's at B-J go for that amount every year and are often not the best restorations or are cosmetic restorations solely for the sale. Just my rant!!! Rob |
