MG TD TF 1500 - Battery terminal corrosion
Have a question for you electrical guys:
I recently bought another battery charger/tender and decided to use it on the TF. What I've noticed lately is the negative battery terminal post, cable connector, and the alligator clamp from the charger are corroding. I'm seeing the blue/greenish corrosion as well as the powdery gray corrosion. The positive terminal has no corrosion at all. The charger is a "smart" charger for 6 or 12 volt batteries, be they AGM/flooded or lithium. The output is 4 Amps. The other two vehicles have chargers as well. Output for those are 1.25V & 1.5V respectively. The terminals and connectors (+ & -) on those show no signs of corrosion. A bit puzzled, but wondering if the higher amperage output from the one charger may be contributing to the noted corrosion. All the chargers are hooked up when the cars are not being driven. Any thoughts/suggestions? Jim |

sounds a bit like battery fumes are weeping up through next to the post itself in the battery--bit of a nuisance----If you drop a few drips of coolant on the top of the post ,enough to dampen the post it'll kill the corrosion off willy |

I normally smear a little grease on mine. Vaseline would also do. Have no problems so far. |

Likely battery just leaking. Warning light on wife's Volvo came on. The aux. start/stop battery had failed, and one post was the usual blue/green mass of corrosion. Clean w/ baking soda, clean cable and post and grease them. George |

OK...then nothing being caused by the output amperage. Cleaned with baking soda, wire brushed the posts, and used a no corrode battery gel to coat the terminals, cables, etc. Done. |
