MG TD TF 1500 - bolt and bracket on TF inlet manifold
Who can tell me what the bolt in the center underside of the inlet manifold, and the two pronged bracket just above it which sticks out from the manifold are? Someone asked me today, and he said he has never met anyone who knows. |

The bracket is for the support stud on a TD air filter manifold, [from the carb's to the filter].You might have to check the TA B C BBS for the reason for the bolt. I would presume it was for a vacuum advance unit on the distributor. Len |

I don't know for what use was intended for the bolt on the underside of the intake manifold, but removing it leaves a threaded hole just perfect for connecting a vacuum gauge. It may function to position a restrictor plate within the balance pipe of the manifold, so I would not mess with it. The "ears" on the side of the manifold were there to attach a stud which supported the TD oil-bath aircleaner and its branch pipe, in order to relieve some of the strain which the carb bodies would otherwise have had to withstand from the weight of those two items. |

The bolt (8 x 1.0 mm) in the bottom, threads into a cylinder inside the manifold. This cylinder (about 1" long) has about a 5/16 hole down its axis. It acts as a restrictor on the manifold air flow between the front and rear carbs. The engine won't run as well without it in place. Do not remove the bolt and let it slide around, this can cause some strange problems (I lost the bolt, and simplly covered the hole with tape to fix the vaccuum leak, and then had some strange carb problems. I found out the hard way!!!) |
