MG TD TF 1500 - braided wire
I am preparing to wire in auxiliary driving lights on my '55 TF 1500. I would like to use braided wire similar to original wiring in the car, but I am unable to find a source for this wire by the foot. Moss and Abbingdon Spares sell full wiring harnesses, but I cannot find just the wire. The alternative is to use contemporary shiny wire. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Mike |

Michael - Something closer to home is British Wiring at http://www.britishwiring.com/ They carry all of the old type wires or can get it for you and the shipping will be a bit cheaper than ordering from the Mother Country. Also, Ed and Leslie are great people with whom to do business. Good luck - Dave |

Mike, I re-did the wiring on my TF a few years ago using Alpha expandable braided nylon webbing. It's a very "period" look and I have been very happy with it. If interested let me know and I can send you a pix and a good source contact. It's about 1/3 the price from the electronics supply house I get it from as opposed to purchasing through a supplier of "old car parts"! Cheers, David 55 TF 1500 #7427 |

David - I have been looking for a source of the expandable braid. It used to be manufactured by Bentley Harris (may still be), but I haven't been able to find a source for it. 20 years ago, I did my entire harness with that, got a period looking harness for the price of the vinyl taped harness. Please send my the source (skip the picture as we have a dial up server. Cheers - Dave |

I have been getting it from: http://www.digikey.com/DigiKeySearch.html Do a search for: Alpha Sleeving GRP-110NF or GRP-120NF The GRP-120NF has a white "tracer" in it that looks very much like our orginial "cloth" harness. I had a bunch of the "black" so I went with that. The nylon does not "absorb" moisture like cloth does so it cleans up nicley. The 1/8" is great for "hiding" the tell-tale 2 wires comming from your dizzy if you run a pertronix Ing. on your car, looks very nice on fog lamps, horns, ect! Cheers, David 55 TF1500 #7427 |

Thanks all. It looks like britishwiring has just what I want, but my ancient computer will not let me use their on-line ordering form. I'll try e-mail and if that doesn't work will have to resort to snail mail. Michael Munso |

Michael - Give them a call on the phone. They are very good about handling call in orders and I have never had them miss a thing. Cheers - Dave |
