MG TD TF 1500 - Brake Leaks

I had my master cylinder and wheel cylinders bored and sleeved by Apple. I can not get the line to the front wheeh cylinders to stop leaking. I have replaced the copper washers 3 times. It is only the front ones. Any suggestions??

Don,

I had the same problem with my brakes. One cylinder was new, the rest resleeved. I am also using silicone fluid. I stopped most of mine with my second set of washers. The others I used a product called Gasoila (Thanks Larry Shoer) available here: http://www.gasoila.com/gasoila/index.php?path=large_gasSoftset.htm&PHPSESSID=76974e475d0a79d8d431b36b6c942f62

I coated the washers in this sealer and they haven't leaked since.

Another solution I was prepared to try was tinning the washers with solder and sanding them smooth to create a softer crush surface.

I also read about annealing the washers with heat to soften them, but I didn't have to go that far.

Good luck and let us know what works!

Hi Don. Check the sealing surfaces of the cylinders (especially as they are really soft) and banjos, especially for any radial scratches. Use magnification. They can be polished out with fine sandpaper on a flat surface. Lastly, I had a banjo bolt evidently crack-not visible to the eye, but it would not stop leaking.

Like George, I had one cylinder that I had to lap all the sealing surfaces smooth in order to get it to stop leaking. Good luck - Dave

Polished the surface, installed new washers and now no leaks noted. Thanks!!! Evan, George and David

I had mine develop a leak between the sleeve and the casting. Took forever to figure out, I thought somehow I was assembling it incorrectly or it had a problem with the seals. Watch carefully for any leaks around the bellows at the pushrod end.
