MG TD TF 1500 - Brake Light Not Working
53 TD, new wire harness from Moss and have no brake lights. Also, here is the tricky one....when I turn on the headlights, I get one that is normal brightness and the other is a hint of light. Took the sealed beam lights out and swithced them, still the same result. Anyone have these issues and find a solution? Thanks Duke |

Duke - Check that there is voltage to the brake light switch at the green wire when the ignition is on. If there is voltage, then you will need to trace the wire back to the source of loss of the voltage. If you do have voltage at the switch, then check for voltage on the side of the switch with the green/purple wire when the pedal is pressed. No voltage there with the pedal pressed, would indiacte a defective switch. If you get voltage on htat side of the switch when the pedal is switched, then you will have to trace the wire back to the brake lights (going through the turn signal relay) to the point where the disconnect is. If you run into a dead end, contact me via e-mail and I'll help you troubleshoot from there. The head light problem is either a bad connection between the point where the wires split off to go to each head light and the light that is dim, or the ground is bad. The ground is between the shell of the headlight bucket, through the joint where it is attached to the head light bracket, bracket to fender, and fender to frame - a lousy way to ground a head light. I recommend running a ground wire directly from the headlight socket to the frame of the car for a more positive ground (I have to admit that I haven't run those wires yet - it's on my to do list). Good luck - Dave |
