MG TD TF 1500 - Brake Master Cylinder Removal
Question.....can the master cylinder and its connecting brake lines be removed from the TF without having to remove the floorboard and other interior parts to get access? The last time I removed/reinstalled the MC was over 20 years ago during the resto when the car was already apart. Jim |

Yes it can be done. |

Yes. I just did it. One thing though is don't try and removed the actuating rod that is connected to the pedal. That would appear to be a pain in the behind. I didn't know at the time (but do now) that it is only held to the body of the master cylinder by the rubber boot. Leave in situ and work the boot back on with three hands and a screwdriver :-) Dave |

With a new or overhauled cyl it is best to fill and charge before fitting. It saves a lot of messing about. I fit a bleed nipple into the adaptor and circulate the fluid into the filler to bleed it. Ray TF 2884 |

Thanks all: So...4 hands....3 plus 1 to hold the screwdriver!! Ray, I'm trying to visualize a bleed nipple in the adaptor. Does that just screw into the adaptor? It's been a while since I've accessed the brake system, so not aware of a ready means to use a bleed nipple. Thanks, Jim |

Jim, the master cylinder has an adaptor screwed into it,this converts the thread in the cylinder to the brake line tube nut. The bleed nipples are the same thread as the tube nuts.(BSF). It really makes life easier to pre-bleed Ray |
