MG TD TF 1500 - Brake Tubing Flare
Redoing the brakes and have one tube that twisted off at the fitting. The fitting is fine but now I need to replace the line, and I need to know whether our T's use a single or double flare at the fittings.
ALWAYS double on brake systems. just reflare the line.
FRM is correct! Double flare.
My ignorance shows through, but thank you for the quick responses. I'm flare tool shopping tomorrow.
|Gene .Allow me to suggest that if you are going to acquisition a flaring tool choose one that will adequately secure the pipe thus preventing slippage as you are forming the double flare (known as metal compression) Many of the flaring tools on the market are of inferior quality and will not withstand the pressure being applied when forming the flare. |What size/type of brake tubing, flaring tool and flare nuts are required for the TD?|
Hello Corey All alternatives considered I choose to,in re-conditioning my T.F.to purchase from from Abingdon Spares all the steel lines c/w fittings and as well including the one for the master cylinder for around the cost of a $100.00 dollars. Even though , I do have all of the forming and flaring tools needed to complete the task. Double flaring will even for the experts present some problems and as I stated above all alternatives considered there are times when purchase out weights the make choice. John

John, sounds like good advice. There's no room for error when dealing with the braking system!
