MG TD TF 1500 - Brooklands Windscreen
I have just managed to buy a couple of original, non MM Brooklands windscreens, sans glass for $20.00. Does anyone have a pattern for the glass? My dilema is, how much do they interfere with you driving vison when the main windscreen is in the up position. I do not want to drill into the cowl to install them and find it to be a problem. Any comments may be helpful. |

Colin, I don't know what you mean by "non-Brooklands", but this may be able to help you:- http://www.gregorysautoparts.co.uk/catalogue.php?t=1&c=1 Have a look at the last 2 items:- 00827 and 00828 - glass for aeroscreens, curved and straight. Gord Clark Rockburn, Qué. |

Gord.the non refers to them being not MM repros. I looked at the site and found the ones I have are for the curved cowl and have the right brackets. The frame is straight across. If I get a pattern I will have local shop make them for less than 18 quid. |

The aeroscreens on my TF were fitted when new. These were made by Peter Manton of Melbourne who owned a popular speed accessories shop. One of his products was the aluminium stone guards fitted to the lower front section of the rear guard and still often seen on Australian cars. His aeroscreens have a solid aluminium base curved to fit the MG scuttle so they are in my opinion more effective than the bracket mounted aeroscreens and far less prone to vibration (my father has Brooklands screens on his TD). If using aeroscreens and winscreen together, then remember that anytime there is condensation on the glass, you will have to wipe four surfaces to see out, unless you can angle the aeroscreen back and look over the top as I have had to do on some foggy mornings (aeroscreen in the frontal lobotomy position).Occasionally I will get a minor double reflection from car headlights but a slight tweak of the angle will fix that. When mounting aeroscreens remember to allow for the base of the windscreen swinging slightly back, and also possible interference with a full length tonneau. Cheers, Matthew. |

My TF also has Brooklands aeroscreens. I don't find them a problem at all as far as vision is concerned when driving. You have to be careful and methodical when cleaning the glass though and I find I am always folding the windscreen to clean four glass surfaces. As Matthew says, you need to have regard as to where a full length tonneau will fit when fitting the aeroscreens. Regards David |
