MG TD TF 1500 - Center armrest in TF
Could someone confirm or deny that a center armrest was a factory option on a TF. I've seen at least one but would like to make sure it is an original item. Thanks for responding. |

Hi, I have'nt ever seen a TF with this as a factory at least with the cars in Western Australia. In the 4 different original factory sales brochures I have, the MG cAR Company Ltd. listed centre lock wire wheels, badge bar, luggage carrier, external rear view mirror, and fog lamp as Optional Extras.Later the TF1500 brochure in combination with Hambro Trading Co. Of America listed a full tonneau cover as an 'Optional Feature'. There were many after market item suppliers in the fifties and I suspect this is how the arm rest came into existence. Cheers Rob. Center armrests were aftermarket...have seen (and built) one for the TD based on photos. Have never seen an illustration with one in a TF however. |

Thanks guys! The additional information is of great value. I'm considering a brokering business for T series in the US since I live in Sunny (at least it is today) California and there seem to be a fair number of enthusiasts here. I'd collect cars from around the USA and sell in CA. Kind of a retirement home program for T series. |

Marinjim- Which vintage MG do you own outright and drive? Paul TDs/TF/YB/etc. |

J R Tatol -- In 1958 I enquired about an armrest for a TF and was told that because the seats are individually adjustable, as opposed to the TD which is not individually adjustable, that the arm rest would not work. I now have both a TD and a TF and have an armrest in the TD which I find very nice. In a TD I highly recommend the use of one. In my case the seats in theTF are as far back as they will go and are never adjusted so I suppose under those conditions the armrest would work. Cheers, Bob |

Paul, Sorry for the delay in posting answer to your query, I'm driving a TD but would prefer a TF. I'll be receiving on soon though; I'm trying not to get attached to any one car (kind of like dating when I was younger). I'm sure I'll find a keeper just like I eventually found a spouse, although I didn't marry until I was 36. As I like to say I have excellent taste and my wife has none, lucky for me MGs don't pick their owners. |
