MG TD TF 1500 - chrome headlamps?
I recall that the early TD's were supplied mostly with chrome "King of the Road" headlamps (a la "TC") from the factory with a brief transition to mixed then to completely painted buckets (body color) for the mid to late TDs. Does anyone have anything definitive on this, if so, please site your source. Thanks much. Oh, and thanks for the info on how to access the Classified section. I guess I was a bit challenged that day! |

My 51TD #8105 has the chrome headlights with the King of the Road medalion on them. Car had been in storage for over 30 years when I bought it and they are original to the car. |

Brian- one of the big mysteries and undocumented changes on the TD. Who knew anyone would care 60 years into the future? warmly, dave |

My July 1953 RHD TD MkII has chrome headlight buckets with KotR medallions, and they were in that state when I boought the car in 1964. But who knows that they are original fitments. Certainly the starter solenoid, Smith's heater and the glove box lock were there also and they are non-standard! IanB |

I was always told that the TD's left the factory with painted ones, and the dealers in NA changed them to chrome for the 'public'? Also that the MKII's had chrome headlight buckets and grille slats? Mine came with oversize chrome buckets without the King of the Road medalions.... |

My early 50 Td #1720 has the chrome king of the road lamps, my 51 #8819 had painted. I believe they did go back to chrome in the last Td Mk2. The change to painted was early 51, after Toms TD. |
