MG TD TF 1500 - Click Adjust

Will the click adjust tool work with MG TD valves?

I understand you need the right socket for the tool. Does anyone know what size socket? Is it whitworth, english, metric or other? Does it have a 1/4 inch or 3/8 inch drive?

Thanks for your help.
David

David - Yes the click adjust works fine on the TDs valves. You will need to get a 1/2 inch drive, 1/4 Whitworth (or 5/16 BSF) socket to use with it. I gave you both size notations because you can get sockets marked both ways (the King Dick sockets that Moss sells are marked with both notations). A 1/4W and 5/16BSF wrench are bothe the same size. Good luck - Dave

Dave,

You mean 1/4 inch drive right? 1/2 seems large. Do you know if anyone sells just the socket?

thx, David
David

David - No, I mean a 1/2 inch drive. The click adjust tool and the socket are both available from Moss Motors or LBC Co. As I recall, the entry for the click adjust in the Moss catalog ( in the front section) states that a 1/2 inch drive socket of the appropriate size is required. Be aware that there are two thoughts on the click adjust, those who say that it is useless and those who say it is the greatest thing since sliced bread. I have adjusted valves with a box end wrench, screwdriver and feeler gauge and with the click adjust and don't find much difference in accuracy. I do find it a bit easier to use the click adjust in that the wrench and screwdriver are contained in one tool. Good luck - Dave

The gunson Click Adjust takes a 1/2" drive socket, as David said. The socket also needs to have a 3/8" clearance hole in the centre for the screwdriver bit to pass through.

The end of the socket may also need to be ground down about an inch to fit securely.

I've got a Click-Adjust and use it with a modified socket to adjust the valves on the TD, and it works just fine. I've not been able tell any difference using a wrench, screwdriver and feeler. I also use it to adjust the valves on the diesel auxilary on the boat. Good item, as far as I'm concerned.
