I don't know what you mean by color number of the engine. The original engine color is a dark red. You can find many threads about this issue in the archives. Bud |

Look at the color samples for "MG Maroon" http://www.por15.com/ENGINE-ENAMEL_p_47.html Jim B. |

I used a 250CC can of Flexa 'Strak in de lak' Koraalrood hoogglans nr. 1033. I think that must be available in Belgium, too? I sprayed two layers unprimered with my home compressor and it is holding up perfectly and apparently it is heat, oil and cooling fluid resistant. This paint is also used by a Dutch mg specialist; he uses it on all his XPAG's. |

and another picture to show the different shades of red. The generator stay is red primer.

I used Duplicolor Deep Canyon Red. After looking at it for a while, it's darker than I wanted, but it's too late and too much work to change it. PJ |

BP, if you take off the engine breather plate you just might find, as I did, the original, albeit faded & heat affected colour of the block. I used a colour that was sold by Phil Redhead, the then proprietor of Sportsparts here in Sydney, in 1969. I found it to be a great match. Bruce Smith (the new owner of Sportsparts) still sells this same formulae in small tins today in engine enamel. See pic. If you can't find the original colour elsewhere I can send you a swatch.
