MG TD TF 1500 - condenser
Can you use a digital meter to check ignition condensers? I get conflicting results, analogue says open circuit, digital says no. This is just out of interest as I will change it anyway. Ray TF 2884 |

Good article. I will add that "infinite" is not an actual value. Let's say that the DC impedance of the condenser shall be greater than 1 MOhm. DVM easyly handle capacitance up to 20 MOhms. However, the transiant value down to O in Ohmmeter might be quite short to show something on a DVM. Laurent. |

My 2 cents, if the points show normal wear, (No very large deposit on one side and lots of erosion on the other) Do not replace the condenser! I do have stock on the condensers the racers use, a full length one, not a midget one the big box stores sell. |

Len, it was a case of "spit, fart, bang and stop". New condenser cured it. I was just interested in why I got different results from the meters. I have a later dizzy and have a condenser on jump leads and clip that to the feed after cutting out the faulty one to get me home. Ray TF 2884 |
