MG TD TF 1500 - Cowl rubber

I am about to replace the bonnet rest rubber that some PO fitted many years ago by the look of it, they stuck it on with glue, it's ugly as sin.
I peeled a small section back and there seems to be more rubber under there, my question is when you remove the bonnet rest rubber should only wood be showing.

Thanks

Seems the "Rubber" is just some sort of adhesive, will peel it all off to give me a better idea.
So with the fitting of the new rubber I presume the rounded section with the cut away section actually fits up on the cowl , right, also does the strip fit under the bonnet strip bracket or do you cut it short.

Thanks

Hi George, I have just test fitted a new rear bonnet rubber to my TD 0267 and I found the New Rubber from NTG Motor Services Ltd had a better profile than the Moss one I had. It fitted much easier and I didn't have to place the tacks right at the rear of the flat section to hold the curved part down on the scuttle. The problem being that if there is any gap at the rear you would have seen the tacks. Recently there was a discussion on the forum about Moss maybe changing their profile to suit.
Also if you look at Chris Coupers article on Fitting the Bonnet on The Original MGTD midget site you can see how the flat section only of the rubber has to be cut away. Hope this is of some help. I will be over in the west in November to see my daughter and family and I wouldn't mind popping in to see your progress if your not too far away from them.
Regards Robert.

Thanks for that Robert, I purchased my rubber from Brown and Gammons it seems to fit quite well , although I have not completed the job yet, I have been totally consumed trying to get my Radiator/ Grille to fit, found it just seemed to be fighting against every thing I did and wouldn't line up however I found that once I unbolted the fenders and side panel it all just fell into place.
Will look forward to seeing you in November if you can make it down my way, I am in Coogee just south of Fremantle.

Regards

Thanks George, Maybe the engish suppliers have the original profile of the rubber. My general manager [Wife] tells me it will be early december so if you could email me an address I can contact you when it gets a bit closer. My Daughter is in Carine on the north side.
