MG TD TF 1500 - Crank handle; location of three clips
The previous owner of a TD didn’t mount the crank handle on the back of the bench seat. I want to mount a handle using the three clips. I know the three clips could be mounted almost anywhere back there but I would like to get it right. Does anyone have a diagram with measurements? I know the handle goes on the right side. I could not find any measurements in the BBS archives. Milt |

Milt- Here's a photo of an original seat back. Note one clip is missing in the upper right. With Jim's great drawing you should be able to locate the clips for the handle. Cheers, Roy |

Sorry- here's the photo. Roy |

Jim and Roy. Thanks very much. That is very helpful.
I noticed from your images that there are two large holes in the seat back. Presumably, for the movement of air. On another TD I own, there are no large holes. On this new, second, TD, that I am working on now, there are two small holes (about an inch in diameter) with a round plastic piece for the opening. I guess the plastic piece is not standard. Also of interest to me, is that I have never seen these large holes before. Maybe I just didn't notice. Milt |

Milt, check out the Driver's Handbook that was issued with each car when new. The sketches clearly show these original holes. I plan to place some insect mesh on the forward side of the ply before upholstering the seat back. Cheers Peter TD 5801 |

Jim's drawing shows the holes to be 3 inch in diameter. I don't think they need to be quite that large. |

Anybody have details for a TF, thanks. Peter |

What a difference a letter makes. The holes are 1-1/2" in diameter, so I think Jim meant D, not R, on his drawing. Joe |

Joe is correct. Should be “D” not “R”. My bad I will correct drawing and repost today. Jim B |

Changed air holes to 1-1/2"D" and increase some of the text size a bit. Jim B. |

Peter- In your question did you mean "how does a TF mount the crank handle? Or does anyone have details of the seat backs? I'm not aware of the TF mounting of a crank handle. TF's had separate seats I believe. Roy |

After a little research, "The Original MG TF midget" site has a photo of the crank handle position for the TF. https://www.mg-cars.org.uk/mgtf/mgtf_tf_seats.htm Roy |
