MG TD TF 1500 - Cut off switch

Replaced my 10 year old battery this weekend and have wanted to install a cut off switch.. Anyone use this type? My thinking is the cable would not be disconnected and floating around.
Peter Dahlquist

I use this switch. Like the one you show no loose ends.

I have used a cut off switch, attached directly to neg terminal and cable.
Connection broken by backing off plastic knob. Available most auto parts stores. Spurtar under $10.

Is this for security or a quick kill switch when working under the bonnet? Just curious, as all three suggestions would be visible? Cheers

Peter D., I've used a switch like the one you've shown on my '77 Ford F-100 for many years. My truck (bought new, still in original paint and original motor) gets driven only a few time a month so my reason for the switch is simply to maintain the battery charge while the truck sits in the garage. So far, no problems. My switch requires a couple of inches of headroom over the battery (not in issue in the truck) so I don't know how it would do in a TD. In the TD I use the switch described by R.W.

ps: Caution, if your car is still positive earth: The poles on batteries are different sizes so fitting any switch to the positive earth pole (preferred) may present issues.

I use a similar switch but cable operated and no long heavy duty cables.

The cable is operated via a T-bar beside the steering wheel under the dash.

Mostly I was interested in the effectivness of this "blade" style versus the turn knob type.

Not for security purposes. Easier to disconnect if I'm working on electrical issues.
Peter Dahlquist

Declan, that is one beautiful steering wheel you have.

One thing to remember about a cut off switch,,, it shoud be locted where you ch get to it fast,, Without having to slow down,, to a stop and open the bonnet,,You want to be able to shut it off as soon as you see smoke or smell a fire,,

I mounted mine on the under dash "Hoop" ,, easy to reach in an emergency.

Thanks Bill!
