MG TD TF 1500 - dashboard plug

Those plugs are 1/8" diameter. Today's standard is 4 mm.
Does anyone know of a provider in europe ?
I found one with ebay in UK but postage fee is high.

They are not the same size so you do not plug it in wrong.
At least on my TD anyway.
M Grogan

The original plugs were the same size. since it was used for a work light and a tea pot, it wasn't a much of a problem. Cheers - Dave

Mike,
Have you checked the plugs from Amazon ?
Audio plugs are 4 mm. I guess there is an error in the amazon page.
3 mm is not standard at all. Many plugs on our dashboards have been changed to 4 mm standard but mine are still the original standard 1/8".

Another supplier is AngloParts in Holland, but quite expensive...

This double-plug is available from Triple-C.com. I made an adapter to a power outlet (cig lighter) to charge my phone.

"Excellent modern reproduction of the early Lucas accessory plug as used on inspection lamps and such.

Lots of other good tools and supplies there. (No financial interest except as satisfied customer.)

If using the standard fascia plug with modern electronics devices take special car to ensure the polarity is correct when connecting to your device. This plug, unlike common cigarette lighter sockets can be inadvertently connected with the wrong polarity to other devices. It was originally intended for a trouble light that was not polarity sensitive.

3MM = 0.118" My accessory sockets are 1/8 " (0.125") also and I think this size may fit. In any event the price is so low ($1.96 with free shipping) I thought I'd try it. This price is for 4 single plugs, two red and two blue. Amazon had a few others sized at 3mm also. One dual plug in Moss is about $34 plus shipping.
Dan
The Triple-C dual plug would be my second choice at $24.95 plus shipping, still cheaper than Moss.
Thanks,
Mike

USB charger and more

M Grogan

M Grogan, do you observe polarity when you hook the charger, and if so how did you wire it? Is your car positive ground?
Mike
Mike I

Positive ground , YES. Checked the center contact of cig. socket to trace wire after I cut off the cig. plug.
This is the positive lead.
This is the lead I connected to ground on a positive grounded car.
The other lead gets the other connection at switch full time power.

Also checked the case for ground short with power on, if it came in contact with the car. it is shielded, so I'm good.

now I can charge phone or use a radio or maybe a fan when stopped for a bit.

Dave, Tea Pot?

Anyone got an image of that?

I even have a new dash cam I can plug into it.
I just have not had the time to test run it.
Taking the family car to Montana for a spell. its only 85 there during the day time.

I found a plug from my stock. It comes from an old tube radio. It was used for speaker with two 4 mm pins and 2 1/8" pins. I was lucky enough to have the correct spacing between the 2 small pins !
I removed the 4 mm pins and it is ok.

Lovely bakelite.

I use the dash sockets to keep the battery charged with a small battery charger. Yes I marked the plug so not to plug in reversed. Still a member of the positive earth club. Forrest TD/C22679

Warning!
Many accessories made for neg ground are dangerous.
the metal part of the USB plug is conected to the neg line If this touches any metal it shorts I thoght I had everything taken care of when I installed a cig lighter socket with reversed polarity... Poof!
I also have a small light with a bendable cord with a metal snake like covering would have shorted had I not cut of the wire connecting it to the neg leg.
