MG TD TF 1500 - Dead Ignition Solution
Gents, I have read several times of loss of ignition because the tach drive gear box vibrated down and grounded out the dizzy primary connection. A zero cost solution is to use one of those plastic caps that are found on new electronics equipment. I picked one that fit tightly, notched the side to clear the wire terminal and pressed it on over the terminal nut. May prevent an annoying stoppage. Apologies it I stole someone's idea. Another popular fix is to ad a bracket as shown. Has not been an issue since I did this. Cheers, David |

isn't it easier to reindex the distributor so the terminal is on the side opposite the tach drive. regards, tom |

Tom, In answer to your question, no! My fix took 3 minutes including digging through the miscellaneous plastic parts box. Also it is easily removed for maintenance or really picky show judges. However I like Dave's bracket. Nice neat job. Best regards, Jim Haskins 1953 TD |

Well, indeed you do learn something new here every day! My dizzy was installed (by PO) backwards like Tom suggests above. Maybe that was the reason! That said, I can tell you from personal experience that getting to that terminal on the other side if you have to is not fun!! (Don't ask me how I know!). I have it on my to-do list to turn it back to specs for that reason. However, this thread may make me rethink that idea. Humm... Thanks Jim & Tom! Ed |

I simply fitted a nylon washer between the coupler and the boss on the generator. It stopped it from rotating. warmly, dave |

Jim, Mabey the fact that it's eary in the morning,,,, but can you post a picture?? I can't figure out what these are; >>plastic caps that are found on new electronics equipment.<< Thanks, SPW |

Steve, I will try to get a photo in a day or so. In the mean time the plastic caps I am referring to are usually on coax connectors on new TVs VCRs DVD players etc. You can also find them on small plumbing fittings refrigerators ice-makers to keep dirt out of the lines until installation. Also on new or rebuilt brake cylinders and master cylinders. Email me with an address and I will send you one. I have accumulated a few over the years. Best regards, Jim Haskins 1953 TD |
