MG TD TF 1500 - Decal for SU Fluel Pump
I just purchased a new decal to go around the SU fluel Pump. The one I received is yellow with blue letters, and it says "Guaranteed Factory Replacement Unit" It also has the SU logo. Does anyone know where I can purchase an original decal that is blue with yellow letters and says something like " See Owners Handbook for Instructions, and the SU logo? Not a big deal, but I thought I was buying an original, not a replacement. Louis |

Louis - The yellow tape is the only one that is available, and even then I suspect that it will only be available until the supply is exhausted. I tried to get the tape from Burlen Fuel Systems (maker of all things SU) and they will not sell the tapes at all. Cheers - Dave |

Hi Louis, I admire the 'chase down' of your detail for the original SU fuel pump Decal. The one generally available as you have surmised states "Guaranteed Factory .........etc" However,a man in UK can supply the correct one you are after.I purchased mine off eBay. If you can give me your email I will send you the contact. Now,he can supply different colours of letters versus background colour. Cheers Rob Grantham TF3719("Aramis"),TF9177("Athos"). |

Rob - I would also appreciate having the contact information for the gentleman with the tapes. Please send the information to me at SUfuelpumps@donobi.net Thank you - Dave |

I am reactivating this threat to see if anyone knows if this tape is now available, or if anyone has a picture of the original TD fuel pump tape label.
I am assuming this went all the way around the edge between the cap and the pump. Pictures I have seen of an original TD seem to indicate there was something over this seal. Chris Cooper seems to remember a rubber piece over it. I looked at Dave Dubois information that Dave Braun has on his website and could not find any clear information on the seal/label. |

Bruce Which one of these pictured is original Louis(original thread) may have been after the wrong one -? But the tape would normally be over the joint of the body/cap so the black one might not be original on this original car-? The blue ones are available here-- https://www.miniphernalia.co.uk/home/51-su-fuel-pump-sticker-sufps2.html |

Thanks William.
Blue is what is used on the current SU fuel pumps. I have not seen a picture of one on an original TD. I have seen the one that says Genuine Replacement, on Ebay. I would believe the original label covered the joint of the cap and pump. The original pump with points required periodic maintenance, so I am sure the original label was taken off of most pumps. On Chris Cooper's web on this site, there is a picture (picture 162 and 164 TD 11272) That shows a residue around the joint. The residue appears to match the width of the blue label. https://www.mg-cars.org.uk/mgtd/Pictures/TD11272/Thumbnails/mgtd_gallery_thm_TD11272.htm |

The majority of TFs did have a rubber 'sleeve' which covered part of the body of the fuel pump. Usually available from the MG retailers. TFs which had the SU fuel pump located near the rear under guard, had the rubber sleeve to protect the pump from debris. Cheers Rob G. |

Just poking about and found--- I thought it was black 1st look but when you scroll through the pics it's a really dark blue---BUT then the blue one looks to have a different box behind it so maybe two different pumps TF's would have a HP pump being at the back---? https://www.sportsandclassics.com/parts/oem-original-parts/mg-series-original-parts/mgtc-mgtd-mgtf-original-su-fuel-pump-positive/ |

The later TF fuel pumps located at the rear of the car were the SU High Pressure type. Longer bodied. Rob Grantham |

If I remember correctly someone had a SU parts catalogue. I wonder if they list the label? In the post I reopened, the original question was about the blue label and that appears to be what Dave Dubois was commenting on. ' I believe Dave would have commented if he did not feel the original label was not blue. (but just my interpretation) |
