MG TD TF 1500 - Dont believe everything you read
For those who receive this magazine, the April edition of Collectible Automobiles has a very nice feature on the MG TD. There are some factory photos showing the rolling chassis. But wait! A mistake has been made. What is it? (The same mistake was made by Graham Robson in his book The T Series MGs, 1980) Cheers, Matthew. |

Ok Matthew, I don't have either one so a photo would help. LaVerne |

I don't get the mag either, so I guess I can't play !!! |

Oh well, I'm not qualified either! |

hI, I suppose that you are aiming at the fact that on page 74 an early chassis without the roll cage and with closed wheels is shown, while at page 75 a later chassis with the roll cage and later wheels is shown. P.s. on the picture on page 75 a device similar to a petrolpump can be seen next to the right rear wheel. What is it?? Erik |
Erik vanHardeveld |
Well done Eric, that is indeed a petrol pump, and with the TF air filters we can see that a photo of a TF chassis has been used. Same mistake made in both publications. Apologies to all for not attaching a photo, I should have done that. Anybody seen any other published clangers lately? Cheers, Matthew. |

If your still checking this thread Matthew, I'm looking for a pair of the MG logo rear wing guards that appear on a lot of the Aussie TF's. If you happen across some please let me know. Thanks LaVerne |
LED DOWNEY |
Will do LaVerne. They rarely come up. I think a lot got chucked back in the 1970's when owners were restoring their TFs and discovering that the trapped water and grit under these stoneguards was causing problems. I quite like the look of them though. Email me direct so I have your email address. . Here is another clanger: MG T Series In Detail by Paddy Wilmer (A very interesting book) has on page 136 a photo of "Alan Tomlinson with his TA at the 1939 Australian Grand Prix" Actually it is Clem Dwyer with his P type. Clem was part of Alan's pit crew. Cheers, Matthew. |
