MG TD TF 1500 - Dot 5 and wheel cylinders
Her I sit,on the verge of being able to drive my TD for the first time, but without one part for the master cylinder . I received the right kit but it contained the wrong part. A cup instead of a ring for the '95-2000 lockheed. The new part has not arrived before the long weekend...SIGH. I am finished the rebuild/Dot 5 change over except for this part and am now wondering, I had some very slight pitting in some of the wheel cylinders, most of it polished out. Will Dot 5 leak out of slight imperfections in the cylinders? Has anyone had experiance with Dot 5 and old wheel cylinders? Sure would hate to have to buy new brake shoes if Dot 5 gets on them. Cheers, Keith |

I switched over when I put all new lines on...and had the old cylinders honed and rebuilt. When I first added silicone, I had a couple small leaks at joints...tightened them up... when checking the cylinders I had a tiny bit leaking, but it stopped after about a week. Have cleaned the brake shoes with brake cleaner and it still stops and seems fine!!! |

Thanks for your reply, tell me Gord, where, how long and how much to get them honed and rebuilt?by the way , how is Tom? |

Keith I changed over years ago and just used a standard brake hone that you can purchase at any automotive shop. Just a little honing to polish the material to smooth. No leaks in 10+ years |

Toms doing well and it was he who honed the cylinders... |

Keith...are you going to Ancaster tomorrow? ( http://www.bsccweb.com/Newpages/Fleamarketinfo/fleamarketinfo ) Anyone in Western New York, East PA. might consider it... always tons of stuff and a great car show (weather is supposed to be OK)? |
