MG TD TF 1500 - Driving & Rattles
I acquired my TD #7351 last year (already restored) and have been enjoying it. There is a rattle coming from somewhere around the rear axle when driving over bumpy roads. The previous owner said this is normal due to so much wood in the frame but my wife is bugging me to do something about it. Is this normal? |

You may want to check if there is something on the bottom of the side window box. A bolt or small part could give a rattle in that area. |

My worst rattle from the driver's side rear end (other then my wheel almost falling off a few minutes ago) was the center medalion on the hub cap...took me a week to find it....!!!!! |

Check your rear shock absorbers and links. |

I was kind of vague in my initial post. I initially thought it was the side curtains bouncing in the box, but after removing them, it was still there. I've crawled underneath looking for anything obvious, but didn't see anything. It sounds like a board slapping against the frame, but everything seems to be properly fastened. That's why I was asking if this is a normal occurance or if I should start removing items to dig further. |

Keep removing items...they should be fairly quiet (well, no big bangs or bumps or anything). |

I wonder if the parking brake cables are slapping the floorboards? Or the exhaust making contact? dave |

Have you checked the axle 'U' bolts? Has |

"It sounds like a board slapping against the frame," If you haven't already, you might lift the carpet and check that the wooden floorbords are screwed down snug, especially the center section of the rear floor boards. Dallas |

Couple other areas if you don't find it with those would be the rear axle buffer (I would not believe this would give a slapping wood sound). Fuel tank pads could give a wood sound. |
