Another one of these on Ebay currently $131.00 AUD including postage of $61.00!! Unreal.. Must be made of gold! Cheers Peter TD 5801 |

Jim were you ever able to solve the DUNLOP stamping on the curve conundrum? If so I'm keen to purchase one of your bespoke items. Cheers Peter TD 5801 |

I never made the die holding tool. I sort of fudged one, holding the dies in a machines vise while I rolled the shaft over it while under pressure from a press. That test sort of led me to the point where the holding tool would need to have individual adjusting of each letter. I put it on the back burner for a while while I ponder. Jim B. |

Thanks Jim. No rush. From the earlier thread it seems there are quite a few of us hoping you are successful. Cheers Peter TD 5801 |

Attached is my first try. As you can see some letters are too deep and some way too shallow. This put me in a re-think mode. Jim B. |

With 5 hours to go on Ebay the tool is an unbelievable $219 AUD inc postage!!! Cheers Peter TD 5801 |

Peter, one just sold tonight on Ebay for $125.50 +$4.50 shipping (US destinations). I believe this might be the one you are watching. Something seems terribly wrong on the shipping cost to OZ. Indeed they are made of gold!! Frankly, no one in my region of the country (Florida)knows a real one from my $35 reproduction. I suppose it makes a difference if you enter your car in a concurs event. Regards, John |

John I've seen the local repro here & it is a very poor imitation. Can you post a pic of yours please? Cheers Peter TD 5801 |

Peter, don't embarrass me! Here is the picture of my repro. I purchased it 4 years ago with a repro Lockheed tin for $35 + shipping. I know it is a poor representation of the early originals, but my point was that it satisfies the viewing audience here in my local area at the few British shows available. I don't know how to post a link but the EBay item number was 351347013792. Sold by British Auto Specialty who has some unique stuff from time to time. John

Well I feel a bit better now. I got this far. It has the correct style of knurl. I still need to get the Dunlop stamp technique. However I dont think I could legally sell them with Dunlop on them since its a trade mark. Jim B. |
JA Benjamin |
Jim B, Make it DUNLAP or DUNLUP, most people will never know or see the difference including the originality police. If they do see it give 'em a penny as a prize. Jim |
James Neel |
Thanks guys. I'm still amazed that the original item can sell for that sort of money. Don't get me started on the shipping to Oz.. Cheers Peter TD 5801 |

Hooray for you, Jim B. Bud |

Wow, something as simple as this selling for nearly $200 inc postage... Clearly there is a business opportunity here. Jim B, just substitute a zero for the O and you are golden. DUNL0P |

Yikes! Seeing this tempted to part out my tool kit on Fee~Bay and use the money to buy a disc brake kit! Or a 5 speed. While working today I found this sitting on the bed of the lathe. No Dunlop If anyone wants it; first email to: eeengineer-at-verizon-dot-net is the new owner. Jim B. If there is demand I have two others that need the cross hole and the slot. |
JA Benjamin |
Jim you have mail. Cheers Peter TD 5801 |
P Hehir |
Peter (TD5801) got the one shown. Sal could get the second when I finish the cross drilled hole and the valve engaging end. The offer is over for now. Jim B. |
JA Benjamin |
I'm very pleased to be the new owner of the Jim Benjamin prototype & I'd like to seize this opportunity to thank you publicly Jim. Can't wait for it to arrive in the mail! I'm going to look into the possibility of having it machine engraved if I can find an engraver with the correct machine & font. Cheers Peter TD 5801 |

I WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO RECEIVE JIM'S HAND CRAFTED DUNLOP VALVE STEM REMOVER YESTERDAY. THIS IS THE ONE HE CRAFTED, A OUTSTANDING PIECE OF WORK. IT'S BEEN PLACED IN MY TOOL BOX FOR MY GRANDSON TO HAVE AND SHOW OFF WHEN HE RECEIVES MY 1952 MG-TD. HE WAS MARRIED 2 WEEKS AGO AND PART OF OUR wedding using wedding cars sevenoaks GIFT TO HIM WAS A COPY OF THE TITLE AND A NEW IGNITION SWITCH KEY. SPEAKING ABOUT REPLACEMENT KEYS I FOUND A LOCKSMITH IN ST.PETERSBURG, FL WHO CUT THE KEY FOR $4.91 usd. THE COMPANY IS BAYFRONT CENTRAL, LOCATED AT 1001 ARLINGTON AVE N, ST.PETERSBURG, FL PHONE # 727-821-3882 DON'T KNOW IF HE IS INTERESTED IN MAIL ORDER. ONCE AGAIN JIM I'M IMPRESSED WITH YOUR WORK. ANYONE INTERESTED SHOULD CONTACT YOU AND PLACE AN ORDER, I'M CERTAIN THEY WON'T REACH THE E-BAY AUCTION PRICE AND EVEN IF THEY DO THEY WILL BE WELL WORTH THE MONEY. |
