MG TD TF 1500 - Ebay car with dead battery?

Good day all
In the fifth picture for this TD on eBay, I believe the reason the battery is dead, is the key has been left on (since 1976). Hopefully the points are not burnt up as a result. This would be a good restoration for those of us who like to get a little dirt under our fingernails by turning our own wrenches.

Might want to tidy the yard up a little also. John

The listing is still there - John's original link just wrapped round two lines and came out a bit wrong. The car is here:

Haha..good eyes. But the points would be the last thing on the list, I think.

That's one tight engine -- still holding 65 lbs of oil pressure just sitting there for 30 years!
Scott McCoy

Not only is the engine holding oil pressure but there is a new way of driving with two steering wheels. You do admit that it is painted in British Leyland racing colours. RED OXIDSE AND RUST. It's just RIPE for restoration.

I found his listing to be refreshingly honest!
Interesting that even having lost intrest 20+ years ago there is still that little "spark" of MGLOVE that makes one want to see the car on the road again instead of being parted out. Kuddos to the seller for this ...he could no doubt get more parting it out...instead another T will rise from the rubble!
Best of luck to him!

I know there are some on this list who have brought T's much worse then that back to life...amazing...however, this one is about as far gone as I would like to tackle... Considering after 2 years I have gotten to know the price of the 'little' things... (like all the stuff missing or wrong on this one....) Just sending those instruments away for repair would break a $1000.00 pretty quick!
I like 'soap and water, wax and polish' restorations!!!!!

I will be heading down to California in a couple of weeks to pick-up this latest project. Talking to the seller on the phone I got the impression that the car was pretty solid. The only concern was the rust in the engine block but I managed to purchase a spare on eBay. Fortunately it is in Redding which is on my route to the TD. As for the instruments, since they are chronometric, I should be able to restore them for a couple of hundred dollars.

Hugh...way to go... 'bringin another one back to Canada'
Send a photo of your present car head on with you in it...

Did anyone notice the Black Cat lurking in the background?
