MG TD TF 1500 - Ebay item #230010950158 54TF

Questioned the seller on sagging front bumper. Answer: the driveway is not level. RIGHT! Also 1465cc engine?

In pic #3 of the full frontal if you eyeball the bumper against the horizontal slat on the garage the bumper looks parallel to ground and the front suspension looks to be either agging to the right or uplifted on the left, like uneven springs!

while there does seem to be some sagging resulting in bumper slant the car caught my interest when I spotted the fuel pump located on the firewall. This would indicate a very early TF ( the 1465cc may have been a typo as the cars ID numbers indicate an XPAG engine 1250ccs. The later 1500s had a displacement of 1466cc. ) If the car has matching numbers it would be the 145th TF built out of 9600 cars. early indeed! and all in all quite presentable. My TF is #1085 also with the firewall mounted fuel pump.

There's definately something going on with the front of that car. The front wheels look to be turned different angles, which could be the effect of using a fairly wide angle lens and getting really close. I hope.

And the gap between the fender and bumper is completely different left and right. It's like there are two different design fenders on the car, or some very poor body work. One side looks at least a couple of inches higher relative to the bumper. It might be the wide angle lens again, but he difference looks to extreme to be just perspective.

Too bad, because otherwise it looks like a nice car. Decent paint, very clean.

Nice looking car....but for sure some front end problems. Front apron is missing as well. I don't care for the engine treatment ....but still looks to be a very solid car. I will be curious to see what it brings.

Does the TF heater valve screw into the thermostat housing or is it part of the casting?

Dave:
How can you tell front apron is missing? Isn't the apron underneath and behind the grille? I couldn't tell from the pics.

From the rear views the front tires look like they are tracking correctly...as long as they didn't move the steering wheel...which they don't usually for a quick ebay photo shoot. Don't think they shot the front shots from directly on the center point of the car?
gordon lawson - TD 27667

Gordon Lawson, -- On TF1500's the heater valve screws into the fitting that seats the thermostat. Also it is the right angle fitting to get the water out of the cyl. head. The earlier TF's just had a place for the heat gauge sensor, the 1500's had both.

Seller has posted a comment about how the bumper brackets need adjusting. This can often be achieved by slackening off all the bolts and nuts and just giving the bumper a good heave.
David, there is a front apron, but it seems to be painted black.
Looks like a sound car but I would be worried by the green overspray on the chassis rails and what that may imply.

Cheers, Matthew.

Matthew & SEAMUS,
Your right ...I was looking for "body-colored" apron ...so did not notice it first time! (Guess I look for that one as mine was missing when I purchased! ...not a fun piece to find!) Still this car looks better than mine did when I bought "Izzy".
Personally, I would be all over it with a "magnet" checking for filler. I would be a little conserned that somebody did the same thing they did to my car....i.e. too much filler used in an attempt to make it "better than new". Guess that is a matter of taste...but with mine I found out when we tried to touch-up some chips on a front wing...the filler was so thick it was cracking under the paint. I decided to go with less filler and let the "patina" of a hand made car show. I like the little "imperfections" in my metal-work ...something you don't see on todays cars!
One of the nicest TF's I have seen offered for a long time...I will be curious to see where the bidding gets to.
Cheers,
