MG TD TF 1500 - eBay mark II's for sale
There are 3 Mark II TDs on eBay right now, one of which just did not sell against the reserve, for $15,800. It's well-used and has not been "restored" for many years, but does have some competition history. I would have thought this is ALL the money.. http://www.ebay.com/itm/281811356032?_trksid=p2060778.m1438.l2648&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT A second one, dealer-offered clipper blue with tan interior, has no bids at $31,500k, and BIN of $36,900. Other than the wrong badges on the bonnet, it has all the pieces, and looks like a very nice fully-restored car. http://www.ebay.com/itm/MG-T-Series-TD-Mark-II-/371454762508?forcerrptr=true&hash=item567c6dde0c&item=371454762508 A third one, red with tan interior, also seems a nice car, with some oddities - it has 1-1/4" carbs, and the second fuel pump has been located in the wrong spot. Has the engine been replaced? Hard to tell, but the 1-1/4's suggest it has. Also appears to be missing the Andrex shocks. http://www.ebay.com/itm/MG-T-Series-TD-MARK-2-/151831008042?forcerrptr=true&hash=item2359d5532a&item=151831008042 Tom Lange MGT Repair |

Tom, I wonder why the Blue car with tan interior has the number 3 stamped over the number 2 on the frame plate? under /TD3/ That would sure make me think twice... Rod |

Are you sure the red one's a Mark II? Maybe somebody just added a second fuel pump. Also, I don't see a right hand hood bulge clearly in any of the pics. |

J Cosin. If you look at the fuel pump picture that shows the prominent side of the tool box you will see one of the original pump mounting holes for the second pump. Why it was moved downward and the horn removed who knows? All three cars right side panel blisters are present. I do find that many of the TD/Cs that come up for sale rarely show good views of the front Andrex and never show the rear shocks. |

Rod - the stamping is genuine, and I suspect the stamper began by stamping it as a TD2, not seeing that it needs to be a TD3, as all mark IIs after 16902 should be. What nobody ever has been able to tell me is why some engines - regular TDs and Mark IIs alike - have an X hand-stamped after the number... Bill is quite correct - the original hole for the second fuel pump can still be seen up above the second pump's level. Any and all Mark II questions cheerfully answered (I hope...) The earliest Mark II engine with the TD3 notation was 16208. |

Sorry for my finger-slip above; what I should have written was "...all Mark IIs FROM 16902 should be" equipped with engines marked TD3 (to include TD/C16902, which came with engine XPAG/TD3/17031). To be absolutely precise, the earliest car to have a TD3 engine was TD/C16811 with engine TD3/17030, but it was a loner - ALL subsequent TDs (including Mark IIs) between chassis numbers 16812 and 16901 had TD2 engines. RA Wilson - 16208 may be the lowest numbered TD3 engine, but it was not the first one installed in a car - 16208 was installed on June 13th, 1952, while 17030 was installed on June 4th. The Production Records show 21 TD3 engines installed before 16208, since the engines were pulled in random order. Tom Lange MGT Repair |

Perhaps I should have said lowest engine number (I have seen the production records). |

That is a bit scary that the red/black fender did not sell for that price. If a TDII does not sell for $15,800 what will? |

I just turned down a non-runner Mark II in somewhat tatty shape for $5500. There are still plenty of them out there... Tom Lange MGT Repair |

I believe the $15,800 was a last bid price and I wouldn't have sold it for that either, it's worth more. JMHO. PJ |
