MG TD TF 1500 - Ebay TD
Check this one out. Wrong gauges, wrong engine if memory serves me correct. Nice car but not original IMHO. EBay number 310184971448 Car does appear to be a 51 but not that engine number. They want a lot of money for it. |

Wrong tail lights for a 51, lights are for a 53. Cheers, Jim |

Ok Where to start. Obviously either this has a different ID plate or it is a composite TD. Car with this early a reg number would not have dished speedo/tach. It would not have the indent in the driver floor. It would not have the dual oil/temp. It would not have the later TD generator or the later oil pump. Tail lights are later. I am thinking the car matches the engine but the reg plate is not original. Need to see the number stamped in the frame. Chrome headlights might have gone with the early reg number. While a nice car, it is way overpriced. Negatives for a original. Chrome grill, chrome tire rack and license plate tube. Black interior, body color dash flat black or semi gloss horns. And much more I am sure. |

Originality be damned...it's a pretty car. The price is only excessive if you don't want to buy it... |

Well, Thats the risk you run when you decide to do so many things un-original on your car. You reduce the number of potential buyers who are willing to pay the money you spent making it so different. I will nitpick and say that all the parts are there for a properly vented valve cover... he ought to install the missing hose rather than cap off the tube. The side curtains look messed up to me as well. warmly, dave |

It appears that this car has an engine that was replaced. Engine should be 3675. The car came with a 7 1/4 clutch and not the 8 as the tag shows.. Thanks guys for the information. I knew it was somewhere and had been on my old computer but it got lost with a crash of same. New computer, no info . I have now added both to my favorite sites so that I can access them again. THANKS AGAIN.... Details for TD3338 TD3338 XPAG/TD/LHX3675 15-Sep-1950 TD3338 EXLU |

Gene, You're right, but as an alternative I still wish I had bought the car you sold for a buddy back about two years ago. At least what one got was what one saw. No outlandish claims, and no implied outlandish claims. I concur that it does appear that somebody has spent some serious money on the restoration of this car, but if there's anything that bugs me more than an incorrect car, it's a beautifully restored incorrect car. For example: correcting those tail lamps would require correct rear wings. What do you suppose it would cost to properly fix this - to the apparent standard of the restoration? Ouch! And what about the language of the ad: "In my 58 years of selling English sporting machines I rate this masterpiece to be one of the best I have had." For the unknowing TD buyer, there is implied (in the price, as well as this statement) that this is a potential guaranteed concur winner. No way! I simply object to the level of "honesty" in this ad. Addressing knowledgeable TD buyers, an honest and knowledgeable dealer would not use this language. Presuming the pictures are a fair representation, as a dealer, I would have to describe this as a beautiful restoration of an incorrect car. "Originality can be damned." That's fine! But I object to presenting the car as the ultimate real thing when it clearly is not. I'd much prefer to pay half the price for a car that really is what the advertiser says it is. For a lot less than $29,900 there are some really fine examples that do come up for sale on E-bay (and elsewhere). PT Barnum would only say there's "...one born every minute". FWIW, Allen |

Allen, I wish you'd bought Bob's car too...at least we'd know it was in good hands. Gene |

Actually, you are getting two cars for that price... the Datsun 210 with the five speed is included. The reason for selling is very personal... it has nothing to do with money or my health. I would like for a TD enthusiast to continue with this restoration. The body panels need a lot of work and the doors kinda schlung... but it's a lot of work represented there. This is a good car and I wanted to make the car a great value for an enthusiast. |

Sorry Sid. Wasn't trying to pry, just seemed a little suprising after all the work you had done. LaVerne |
