MG TD TF 1500 - ebay TD
Amazing how many unrestored cars keep popping up. Hope this one finds a good home. #201030307516 |

It. Needs. A. Lot. Of. Work. Interesting that it has inch and a half carbs, but no bulge on the hood panel. It will make a good project for somebody, I just hope it does not turn in to a a money pit. It can be done if somebody goes about it sensibly, and does not just throw money at it. -David |

I've bought 5 Mark II cars in the past few years between $4500 and 6k on eBay, and all have been similar cars to this one - barn finds, basement-storage cars - and disassembled projects. I think there is a lot to be said for starting out with a car like this - it's so clear what it will need, which is everything. I hope I live long enough to get them going again! I'm just buying a smallish group of Mark II parts from a very good guy who is getting rid of a very poor, rusty, without-a-drive-train, rotten-tubbed Mark II, and those parts will make it possible for other Mark II cars to get back on the road. That's a good feeling, and I'm happy to buy parts I realistically don't need right now, so that some day I can move them on to other owners and restorers. It all works out. Tom Lange MGT TRepair |

At least its pretty realistically priced, unlike so many. It will be interesting to see the bidding... |

Realistic starting bid maybe...hasn't hit the reserve so we don't really know if it's realistically priced or not. |

Hi Everyone, This one found a good home at my house. :) This is my first MG restore. I have always wanted a TD. I have restored several corvairs. Almost everything is in tact, the engine starts, gears work. The Dash wiring is a mess, looks like someone tried to jack it, need to rewire. The only missing part is the Tach/clock. Looks like maybe just the tach faceplate and the hands, the back is still there with the cable hanging off of it. What shop manual will show the wiring? Or does someone have a page they could post? Any leads on a tachometer? They seem to be hens teeth. :) dan |

Congrats, welcome and enjoy! Here's a source of wiring diagrams for you: http://www.ttalk.info/TDWiringDiagrams.htm |

Dan, Welcome aboard! You have found the right place to get answers to all of your questions during the journey of your rebuild. I know they helped me. Bill, TD24570 |

Dan, don't know where at in CA you are but there is a club in the San Diego area and I am sure there is one in the LA area also. Use the club, it is an invaluable scource of information. These cars are easy to work on but you need the right tools (Whitworth) and the right information. Some good books are out there and Of course the MOSS catalog. Good luck and stay in touch with this board, lots of knowledge and information here and lots of parts that some of us have...(not Me) but others.. |

Thanks for the nice welcome! I am just north of San Diego, Poway, to be exact. Here is a pic of my body plate, is there a magic decoder ring that shows what the #'s mean? Thanks! dan |

Sorry, Dan, but the Body Number is not a good source of information. All TDs are Body Type 22381. For some info on that see http://www.ttalk.info/Tech/BodyPlate.htm However, there's a plate in that same vicinity has THE info on it. It shows what's known as the Car No. (see http://www.ttalk.info/Tech/CarNumber.htm) that's the one that can let us find your car's birthday and to see if the engine in the car is the one that the factory put in. See if you can locate the ID plate. BTW, welcome aboard. Bud |

Dan, my TD came from San Diego so I know it's a great area to raise TDs. Here's what the plate that Bud is talking about looks like. You can just see the plate in your photo to the lower right. Welcome to the MG-T series community. All fun and a huge amount of help here. Jud TD/25009 (Feb 1953) ps, the PO was a fellow (a doctor I believe) named John Penn who in the '70s lived on Cessna Street. I think San Diego is a pretty big place so the odds of you knowing the Penns or even knowing where Cesna Street is are pretty long but let me know if you do. |

Congrats Dan. For wiring, use the aforementioned wiring diagrams, and order yourself a new harness from British wiring. Well worth the expense. All the connectors and colour coding will be correct and the wire will not be brittle and have rotten cloth cover. When the TD is done you will find it a "Blast" to drive. Welcome |

I found the other plate right where you said it would be. It is TD5751. |

Brings back a lot of memories Dan. A nice car to restore. Don't hesitate to ask questions, post pictures and have fun. I assume you are going to do a full restoration? I have TD 4139 and it was produced 90 days prior to yours on Nov 1 1950. One of things to be careful with. First thing you will want to do after removing the hood is to take the headlights and headlight brackets off. Good potential the bracket may be stuck to the radiator support. Be very careful, the wings on the headlight bracket break off very easily. (where the bolt goes through the headlight bracket at the radiator shell) |
