MG TD TF 1500 - Electrical query
I have an electrical question which I find a little unusual. My TD runs just fine and all electrics work as they should. The amp meter flickers at times however should I take the battery lead off the negative post the engine continues to run. Is that normal? The car is wired positive earth. Any help appreciated. Thanks. John... Sydney |

Its fine, but you won't be able to restart on the starter motor with it disconnected. Dave H |

the battery is only a storage device so it is running on the generator direct. Ray TF 2884 |

I thought it was running on the generator but I had some reservations. Thank you Ray and Dave for your help. It does say however that the generator is working OK. Regards. John...Sydney |

the flickering is probably just the voltage control kicking in and out on a full battery. Ray |

Another low level flicker is the fuel pump. Bud |

The fuel pump current draw should be evident audibly. Turn the idle down far enough and the generator will not produce enough output and the engine will stall. Looks like it was all things normal really, listen for and time the fuel pump “cycles”, mine is every 5-7 seconds with the engine at idle. With my electronic pump from the late Dave DuBois there is no mistaking what it is when it happens. Peter |
