MG TD TF 1500 - electronic ignition
wonder if there is an electronic ignition for my MG TF 1500. Some handlers can only make them special because that ype is nog available in their normal stock. But doing this way it becomes a lot more expensive. Does anyone know a company that have those ignitions in their normal range? The ignition type is Lucas D2A nr 403670 |

Jan, Try Skip Kelsey at Shade Tree Motore, Ltd. in Pleasanton, CA USA. His web site is <Shadetreemotors.com>. He lists a Pertronics ignitor for both pos. & neg. earth mgtfs at a reasonable price. Cheers - Dennis - Sacramento |

What about the Crane XR700 Electronic Ignition (Optical Type)... I have a '55 TF1500 and I'm considering going to an electronic ignition... I was under the assumption the the Crane system was Lucas "point type" distributor compatible... Rod Macleod - '55 TF1500 #HDB46/6798 (Molly) |

Jan, A firm called Aldon Automotive sell an electronic ignition called the Ignitor. It is a very small unit that replaces the points and is totally contained within the distributer. Unless you lift the cap you would never know one has been fitted. I have one in my Lotus Elan and another in my MGB and they have performed faultless for a number of years. I noted a Dutch Company at the Silverstone event was selling them so you should be able to pick one up locally. I spoke to Aldon about a month ago and they confirmed a unit is available for the standard TD distributer for about £70 The web site for Aldon is aldonauto.co.uk Cheers Jan Targosz 51 TD |
