MG TD TF 1500 - engine color?
Hi, I am about to paint my engine and have found two colors. One is a reddish orange and the other is a more red color. The orange color was found under the red. What is the orig color? The color that Moss has is a bit of maroon And much darker than my two colors. Can youall help me? Thanks, Neal Turner |

I would go with MossMotors color. My memory of my first TD in 1959 was almost a maroon color. I'm certain it was not repainted. Safety Fast Jim Haskins 53 TD |

The years may have turned the original maroon-like color a bit darker than original but I have found that Rustoleum Burgundy in spray cans really duplicates what I have on the engine. |

I used PPG's DCC50782 on my TD and MGA. It is a darker red/maroon and from what I have seen at car shows is a very good match to the original color. To see color on engine and rear end, go to www.ncmgcc.org and click on MGA headlight Ray |

The XPAG/XPEG engine color is a darker red(Maroon) than the series "B" Austin engines used on the MGA and Mark I MGB's. The Moss colors are different and correct for each. |

I use Hirsch Hi-temp engine enamel. Its available in quarts or aerosol cans. You can apply it to bare cast iron, but you have to prime other metals. The MG maroon matched my original paint color. It's available from http://www.hirschauto.com/acb/showprod.cfm?&DID=27&CATID=1&ObjectGroup_ID=1 PS. I'm not affiliated with hirsch. Just happy with the paint. |
